Community Content Leslie Epstein’s latest novel “Hill of Beans: A Novel of War and Celluloid” will be published March 1. To celebrate the launch, Epstein will be discussing his book with author and film critic A.S. Hamrah during an online event with Brookline Booksmith at 7 p.m. March 1. The event is free and open to the public. This is the first book published by High Road Books, a new imprint from University of New Mexico Press. "Hill of Beans" is set during World War II, when Jack Warner, the vice president and executive producer at Warner Bros., is preparing to debut “Casablanca,” his new film about a group of refugees marooned in Morocco. He has a goal to make the 1942 invasion of North Africa by British and American forces coincide with the film’s release. Arrayed against him are Stalin and Hitler, as well as Josef Goebbels, Franklin Roosevelt, a powerful gossip columnist, and a beautiful young woman with a terrible secret.
