Jakarta has sought to engage with any foreign government willing to support its domestic development agenda. By February 15, 2021 Advertisement Last year, Indonesia-U.S. relations saw many highlights, from the visit of then U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to the extension of Generalized System of Preferences trade preferences for Indonesia. Among other issues, one thing that has not received as much attention was Washington’s support for infrastructure development in Indonesia. In fact, the U.S. government, through International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has recently emphasized U.S. commitment to support Indonesia in catalyzing private sector investment for Indonesian infrastructure development. This movement extends the pre-existing collaboration between Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance and the U.S. Treasury Department on infrastructure finance and market building. The DFC is expected to catalyze private capital and facilitate financial market growth in support of infrastructure investment.
