became forever enshrineded in first all-female space walk and it included a call with president trump. for a space geek like me it's an awesome thing. it's been a long journey for women in space. at the start of the space program nasa actually thought women would be better astronaut candidates than men. they were lighter, smaller and required less oxygen, but when space flight turned into a space race with russia, it was thought, men better handle the task. as you can imagine, there were other hair brained impediments for women. yes, some scientists wondered how women would handle menstruating in space, fears that women would be a distraction to men in tight spaces and thoughts that women shouldn't abandon their children or house work for the rigors of space flight, but eventually we got our chance and women were finally admitted into the astronaut program in 1978. an american woman didn't find space until 1983 and that was sally ride. dr. meyer said of her all-female
