what the volume of the potential spill could be. i believe that misty told me, they tied her up and dropped her in the river. i don t believe that they gave their grandmother jailhouse confessions at all. i think it s a complete lie. i know that she understands. she s not in a vegetative state. look at that chaser right next to it. man, would you get that close? great stories we re following on a friday. hi, i m chuck roberts. thanks for newsichoosing hln n and views. sarah palin took the stand in knoxville today. a former college student is on trial for allegedly hacking into her e-mail account. she told the jury she learned her account had been compromised on the news. a few minutes later she got a visit from the secret service to tell her what had happened. after court she spoke to reporters. i don t think an illegal action like this is a prank, not when you consider that how impacting it was on a presidential election. the suspect is 22-year-old david kernell. he could get 50 years behind bars. in a little over an hour from now, the governor of arizona, a republican, will announce what she ll do with a new immigration bill in her state. jan brewer has until tomorrow to veto it or it becomes law. protesters are still on the streets of phoenix to demand she not sign this controversial bill. it would require immigrants to carry their alien registration documents with them at all times and police would have to question anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally. there are also penalties for anyone who knowingly hires or transports illegals in the u.s. critics say it would cause racial profiling. suppor congressman raul closed his offices in yuma and tucson earlier today because of threats he s received for opposing the bill. president obama says arizona s new immigration bill is misguided. he says it threatens to undermine basic notions of fairness we cherish as americans. he made the comments at a naturalization ceremony for 24 members of the military. the newest u.s. citizens. e-mails and text messages also form a part of the new document dump in the murder case against casey anthony. some fascinating fbi evidence has been released this day, including incriminating lab reports and testimony. how incriminating? in session s jean casarez has been digging through this pile of information. what are the key points? the key points, i have to tell you, i just got through it all. i have gotten through everything and here is what i think is something that i hadn t heard before. i had heard bits and pieces, but the fbi in a memo is asking for a black plastic bag with red handles to be tested for latent fingerprints. but i think there could be more of a significance than just fingerprints, whether they would or would not be found because it says that investigative efforts have revealed that this item, the black plastic bag, held a canvas laundry bag similar to that found with caylee s remains. i found on the property form this was found on a shelf in the garage. let s remind everybody when the remains were found in december, those remains were found in a canvas laundry bag, the name of whitney design, that s the manufacturer, and then black plastic bags were over that. by reading this what they say they found on the shelf in the garage was a canvas laundry bag of whitney design in the garage with a black plastic bag around it, and that eerily is exactly how the remains were found. now, on the other hand, the garage had more of aen access to people from the outside than the home would. but this is what i see could be of most significance. but it is their garage. yes, it is. talk about this hair evidence. the fbi has been analyzing it. it s a piece of evidence, is it from the crime scene, and it doesn t match either caylee or casey anthony, right? this is a hair it appears from the crime scene, you re exactly right, they tested the hair from five crime scene investigators, females that had about the same color of hair to see if it was their hair. it was not. that s all we know about this lone hair, but what i think they re going to be looking for is, number one, if it has a root. if a hair has a root, you can do more testing on it. you can go my titochondrial dna testing. if that was casey anthony s hair found at the scene of the remains that would be very significant for the prosecution. but so far they can t match it to either. we don t have any results i can see in this discovery. the judge, how will his style as opposed to the style of stan strickland who has recused himself, how about that affect the trial? how it could affect the trial is people may be more formal in the courtroom versus relaxed. they may not speak out of turn. you know, he sent out an order yesterday that i m sure he sends to everyone, but it has to do with decorum in the courtroom and he s very, very much serious about that. as far as dates we already have an order in place from judge stan strickland that the trial will be may 2011. that is going to be discussed next week as far as motion dates, also deposition dates. whether anything would be changing though, i don t know, because you ve got constitution rights and the defense, if they want the trial at that point so they can get through all of this, i think it will stay where it is. no judge wants to make a reversible error. that s right. concise and comprehensive as always. thank you, jean. thank you, chuck. the coast guard has not given up looking for survivors of the tuesday night oil rig explosion off louisiana, but officials do admit there s now little chance of finding those 11 crew members. families say they have been told to expect the worst. the big rig sank yesterday. it s now a fear of a major crude oil spill. crews report a one by five mile rainbow sheen of crude oil mix on top of the water. they re gearing up for a major spill though there s no evidence of an additional oil leak. i am saying that there s no crude oil at this time leaking from the well head. there s no crude oil leaking from the riser that s adjacent to it. however, we are in a very forward-leaning and robust response posture. should we have any kind of leakage, we will be ready to respond. crews recovered 181 barrels of the oil and water mixture. here are some perspective from the coast guard. you her the 1989 exxon valdez spill off alaska. worst case scenario, this one would have to continue for more than a month to equal that disaster. there are some brand new posts from tiger woods on his website today. on his blog he s sharing his feelings about his performance at the masters. i have to say it felt great to return to competition at the masters tournament to actually contend in a major on the back nine sunday and tie for fourth with very little preparation with all that s transpired in my life was pretty cool. i received some criticism for bad language, which i apologize for immediately after saturday s round. it s tough when you re in a competitive environment and in the flow of a tournament. i m not perfect. all i can say is i m trying to do everything i can without losing my fire and competitive spirit. and later he briefly mentions his family. again quoting, i took a little time off after the masters to go scuba diving and spend time with my family, but i did enjoy a fun round of golf with my friend john cook. i double-eagles a par 5 17th. and with a five wood and shot 63. so my game is improving. the quotes from tiger woods on his website. next week, of course, he s in charlotte competing in the quail hollow championship. former vice presidential contender sarah palin goes from political drama to legal drama testifying against the young man charged with hacking into her campaign. after her testimony, palin said it s up to the judge to decide whether a conviction should lead to prison time, and she said the intrusion is much more than a college prank, as the defense claims. access and communication is so extremely important when you re thousands of miles away from your children, and you re not there to protect them, they re receiving threatening calls and messages, and mama wants to be there to help the kids. at least be able to communicate with them, so it was a big barn deal to have that communication stripped away. if convicted, the 22-year-old david kernell faces up to 50 years in prison. his attorney has already told jurors his client had no criminal intent. so does this alleged hacker deserve 50 years in prison. richelle carey is here. some people s views are whether he had a criminal intent or not, some people are saying, young man, it s a crime. they don t care. others are saying lighten up. let me get some views. richelle carey hln. dean says this, hacking into private accounts is a criminal act. i feel it will send a message to people who have the ability to do these crimes that they will face punishment. what if it was a prankster in quotes on 911 who could hack into a 9/11 i think is what he s trying to say who could hack into the president s account to put our safety at risk. let the punishment fit the crime. patricia says this, no prison. he should get probation. no access to a computer and a fine. they re letting people out of prison for worse crimes than this. amber is calling us from tennessee. okay, amber, what do you think should happen if he s found guilty of this? caller: hi. well, i actually went to the university of tennessee with mr. kernell. i didn t know him personally, but as someone his age, i think that probably he did mean this as a joke and kind of just intended it to show that he had the power to break into an e-mail account of this level, and i do think he should be punished. in no way am i condoning what he did because it was a crime, but 50 years is a little bit over the top for this crime as there are violent offenders who get out every day with much less sentences than that. so what do you think would be appropriate? because he probably is scared right now. what do you think would be appropriate though? caller: i think maybe maximum two years in prison and a few years probation. as i said, there are violent offenders who don t have to carry this much punishment of 50 years in a federal prison. amber, thank you for the phone call. jim is calling us from missouri. jim, are you ever afraid of your e-mail accounts or your personal information getting hacked into? caller: well, it s something that you should remember. i would give him one week every year for five years in a jail cleaning the toilets, or you could turn him over to sheriff joe out in arizona for a complete summer from june 1st to september the 30th. he d remember that. but your point is certainly that you don t think he should just walk away from it. caller: right. no, he shouldn t. definitely not. he s not a kid. he s a man. okay. all right. so you re telling everyone maybe i should stop calling him a kid. i get your point, jim, i do. stephanie wrote us this, a punishment is definitely needed. 50 years, i don t think so. there are some murderers who get less time than that. and austin sent us this, community service and a fine but not prison. sara said maybe some jail time, i d say a year. it is identity theft. how would you like it if it were you this was done to? you d want punishment but prison is way too much. susie offers this suggestion. put his skills to work, homeland security maybe? silver says jail won t help this kid. he ll be brutalized far beyond the damage he caused and why should we pay to warehouse him? i think a big fine will have a bigger impression. let him spend a few years paying it off and i bet you i don t think that was a mistake on silver s part. i bet you he won t do it again. kind of cheeky there. if this young man is convicted of identity theft, of breaking into sarah palin s e-mails, do you think he should get some serious time for this? how would you feel if it were your e-mail or maybe you think it is just a prank that turned into something bigger than he anticipated. call us 1-877-tell-hln. e-mail us cnn.com/hln. you know how to text us hlntv, standard text rates apply. chuck, i don t think our viewers do anything by accident. i think that betcha was in there on purpose. you know it was. thank you. sure. all s going to tell us what she s going to do in about one hour. meanwhile, and here is late scenes just turned around. this is from like four minutes ago. protesters are in front of the state capitol demanding she not sign the immigration bill. it would require immigrants to carry their alien status documents with them at all times. and police would have the right to question any suspect that they think is in the country illegally for whatever reason. there are also penalties for anybody who knowingly hires or transports illegals in the u.s. critics say it would cause racial profiling but supporters say the federal government does not enforce immigration laws and this is the best way to fill that void. a congressman has closed his offices because of threats he s received for opposing the bill. again, protesters right there at the state capitol and they have been told to go there by, among others, a spanish language station in the phoenix area. new developments in the produc grandmother has another theory about what happened to haleigh cummings. croslin was the last person to see the 5-year-old the night she vanished from her father s home. in recent days her grandmother has pointed the finger at other family members. this is the same grandmother who reportedly tipped off police to search the st. john s river. they didn t find haleigh s body. on hln s nancy grace last night flora holers made another startling accusation that haleigh was allegedly being sexually abused, but her accusations were quickly and hotly disputed by relatives who say flora isn t that close to the family to have inside information. my question is where did that story come from? it came from misty. what did she say? that she heard haleigh in there crying. and who was in the room with haleigh? i m going to say joe or tommy. or both. or both. and what, if anything, did misty croslin do to take care of haleigh? according to what she told me when all this was going on, she had already been threatened by joe and she grabbed junior and got in the bed and they covered up their heads completely and when she took the covers off of her head, haleigh was gone. why would miss holers make up a lie about her own flesh and blood? she s not been around our family for the last seven years that i have been with the croslins. i have flo holers maybe two times. she is not involved in our family. so i don t know why she would want to hurt and implicate three of her grandchildren. it s just very sad she would do that. that is chelsea croslin. misty croslin and haleigh s father ron cummings are in jail on unrelated charges. investigators have labeled the girl s disappearance a homicide investigation. breaking developments tonight, don t miss nancy grace. the new report claiming misty croslin flunked another polygraph. also, all of the evidence which was revealed today by the agencies investigating this, the document dump, if you will, and more about that search in the st. john s river. nancy hass got it all tonight at 8:00 and 10:00 eastern. sarah palin took the witness stand in tennessee today. a former college student on trial for allegedly hacking into her e-mail account while she was campaigning in 2008. palin told jurors she learned her account had been compromised on the news. a few minutes later she got a visit from the secret service to tell her what happened. after court palin spoke to reporters. well, anybody who thinks that this isn t disruptive or hurtful to have their mailbox broken into or an office broken into and documents stolen and disclosed for the rest of the world should put themselves in a person s shoes who has gone through this and believe me, it s quite disruptive. it s just so extremely unnecessary and resource consuming. it s just such a sad state of affairs that we are in that we even have to be here trying to teach somebody that it s wrong to do such a thing. the suspect is 22-year-old david kernell who could get 50 years behind bars if convicted. many would say teens who drop out of high school are going nowhere fast. well, a new law in south carolina would pretty much ensure that. a push to tie do you think it s a good incentive? the threat of losing a driver s license, is it enough to make a would-be dropout stay in school? let s dig into firsthand experience, people answering that question is first-hand knowledge. i m sorry, what are we doing? all right. jackie writes this and i m going to have to squint to read it. school and driving have nothing to do with each other and trust me, as my 14-year-old son s ipod sits on my night stand i am perfectly capable of disciplining my kid. i don t need the government for that. thanks anyway. all right, jackie, thank you. ginger is ready on the line. ginger, you re in denton, texas. caller: denton, texas. what do you think about this? caller: i m a ged instructor and so i see firsthand the challenges of going back to school and trying to obtain your diploma, so i think south carolina s on track. i think that driver s license is a privilege that needs to be earned. we all have to earn it to keep it, and 16-year-olds it doesn t hurt them to have to earn the privilege of a driver s license. all right. well, it is kind of a close call, and you do get your license back at 18 no matter how badly you mess up at school, i guess. caller: and it s never too late. most communities, i know in denton at least, we have the free ged program and it s day or night. it s never too late to go back and re-earn that if that s what you had to do. but 18 is a good age. a little more mature at 18 than 16. that s true. we have tooti on the line in myrtle beach. caller: i watch you every day. i m happy to hear that. caller: i have done so much work with these lawmakers in this state working myself. what i would say is this, i think that, you know, the motive is not so much keeping kids in school, and i m not accusing educators of not wanting to keep them there, but i don t think your viewers understand because i have worked in the school system. if these schools, and especially given the fact the states are broke now and have no money, if they do not keep these children in school, the teens in school, they lose money from the government, and i think that s a big incentive on why south carolina and probably other states, too, are keeping you know, wanting to keep these kids and now take their license away. but i m not sure that that s going to stop the kids. i think and i m sure it varies why children are, you know, dropping out of school, you know, from the fact that i think there s a role reversal with parenting, and i think unless you kind of hold parents accountable, and i don t see that happening but you think it s a financial incentive? caller: i really do. common sense tells you that. they do lose funds. caller: teachers and i worked in the school system. i have worked with state government, with children in various programs in mental health and other agencies and i m telling you, it s all about funds and right now they are just grasping trying to keep all the state and federal funds that they can so many schools are closing, so many educators being laid off. i can see the logic. thank you so much. susan writes, to me it sounds like a good idea. when we have parents being put in jail due to their child s truancy, then we need a law that also punishes the student. besides, most education systems have public busing or contracted school busing available to transport the students to school. we re just getting started. is the aim here to discourage dropouts, to keep more kids in school, or is the aim here to get money for the state? he says that this new immigration bill is misguided, his exact words, the way he described it. he says it demonstrates the need for the u.s. congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform. our failure to act responsibly at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others. and that includes, for example, the recent efforts in arizona, which threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that are so crucial to keeping us safe. in fact, i ve instructed members of my administration to closely monitor the situation and examine the civil rights and other implications of this legislation. but if we continue to fail to act at a federal level, we will continue to see misguided efforts opening up around the country. the president made those comments at a naturalization ceremony for 24 members of the military. and the president and first lady are enjoying a weekend getaway in asheville, north carolina. they made a quick stop at 12 bones, a local barbecue spot. mr. obama stopped there in 2008 when he was prepare portion the final weeks of his presidential campaign. former vice presidential candidate sarah palin took the stand against the man accused of hacking into her ya yahoo e-mail account during her 2008 presidential campaign. after her testimony, she said it s up to the judge to decide whether a conviction should lead to prison time. and she said the intrusion is much more than a college prank, as the defense claims. access and communication is so extremely important when you re thousands of miles away from your children. and you re not to protect them. they re receiving threatening calls and messages, and a mama wants to be there to help the kids. at least be able to communicate with them. so it was a big darn deal, yeah, to have that communication stripped away. if convicted on identity theft and wire fraud, 22-year-old david kernell faces up to 50 years in prison. his attorney has already told jurors that his client had no criminal intent. we ll get your views on that coming up. the coast guard hasn t given up looking for four survivors to tuesday night s oil rig explosions, but officials admit there is little chance of finding the 11 missing crew members. families say they have been told to expect the worst. the big rig sank yesterday, and now there is a new fear of a major crude oil spill. crews spot a one by five mile wide sheen of crude oil on top of water. they re gearing up for a major oil spill, even though there is no evidence of an additional oil leak. crews have recovered 11 barrels of oil and water mixture. it could be widespread if the spill reaches shore. i see it, i see it. that scary-looking twister. that thing landed in the texas panhandle last night. it wasn t the only one. there were at least three confirmed reports of tornadoes in the area. one of the twisters was on the ground for 30 minutes. and rommed through a number of texas counties there is no word of any injuries or damage. and this funnel cloud right here, this thing touch down in western kansas yesterday. fortunately the mile-wide tornado touched down in an area where there is not a lot of people who actually live there, thank goodness. the report says no damage. tiger woods is reaccession how he did at the masters, what he said on his blog about his comeback. is it that serious of a crime if he is found guilty? how much time do you think he should serve. let me start with some e-mails. this is from john. he says hacking sarah palin s e-mail was not a criminal act worthy of jail time. it didn t cause any physical harm, and at worst caused palin a little bit of annoyance. frankly, she is a grand-standing spotlight seeker, and the attention from the trial can more than compensate for her aggravation. i don t think they would have picked john to sit on the jury. okay. frank says this. the young man who hacked into sarah palin s e-mail knew what he was doing. he illegally attempted to sway the course of a presidential election. he should receive the maximum time. it is time that we as americans stand up for our right to free and just elections. okay. so some of you see this as something political. kurt calling from st. louis. okay, kurt, 50 years for hacking into e-mail. true, there is identity theft, wire fraud, all kinds of things in there. but 50 years if he is found guilty. what do you think about that? caller: i think he is being set up as the scapegoat. if sarah palin can t keep her yahoo account secure, she certainly can t be trusted with launch codes, and that s what they want us to forget. that s what being obscured by this unnecessary trial. wait, wait, wait, john. sarah palin didn t make him do this, if he in fact is guilty. sarah palin didn t make him do this. this young man, if he is guilty, chose to do this. so if he is found guilty of choosing to hack into someone s e-mail account, how serious of a crime do you think it is? how much jail time did scooter libby serve? okay, can you answer the question and stop giving me a question with the question? well, i could go further. how many people died in darfur today. kurt, thanks for phone call. trying to have a conversation. appreciate it. sylvia is calling us from texas. sylvia, what do you think about this? if this young man is found guilty on a number of serious charges, he faces the possibility of 50 years in prison. do you think it was just a prank? do you think it was serious crime? what do you think? caller: it s a serious crime, but that s an outrageous punishment. he obviously suffers from some moral deterioration. and we need to stop it now. we need to not subject him to violent offenders, which would teach him how to do all kinds of other crimes. he would come out of prison worse off. so that s not the way to go. we need to make a positive outcome out of stuff like this. he could rebuild computers that people don t nate that have crashed for children who other wouldn t have one. he would probably be excellent at it. and that would be a punishment if he had to do it for long enough, along with a very stiff fine. that would get his attention. and he could do something positive and feel good about himself when it s all said and done. all right, sylvia. thank you for that call. thank you. let me get in a facebook comment. you ve been commenting at richelle carey hln. this is a crime and he should be punished. that was short and to the point. adam says this. this whole entire case is ridiculous and should not even be in court. it is a waste of tax dollars to even pursue. tom says yes, give him the whole 50 years. hacking e-mail is just as bad as stealing your mail out of your mailbox, which is a federal crime too. he says 50 years may deter others from doing the same thing. so great comments all day on this. we certainly appreciate it. this past weekend, hundreds of community and business leaders gathered in new york to set a new black agenda in the country. okay, now the annual national convention was hosted by reverend al sharpton. we spoke with mr. sharpton today and asked him if there is a new generation of civil rights leaders taking shape in this country. reverend sharpton, thank you very much for your time. i want to go ahead and ask you this question. when president obama is asked pointed questions about the disparities between blacks and the rest of the population when it comes to housing, unemployment, he is at times has responded a rising tide lifts all boats. and there has been a growing criticism from some in the african-american community saying he is not doing enough to help blacks. what are your thoughts on that? well, i think that many of those that are critical were people that didn t support him in the first place. i think that the president s thing, what he is saying is what he said all through the campaign. many of us that are dealing with the disparity and inequities between the black community and others have tried to work in a way that we can bring about some balance of strategy that would alleviate the problem. but we have no expectations that the president is going to not do what he said he was going to do. this is not any different than his campaign, that he was going to fight for everyone. this past weekend you called together people for a measuring the movement summit. that s what you called it. and they manage you manage, rather, to agree on an agenda to act immediately. tell me about some of what came out of that summit? well, what we talked about is leaders of organizations, leaders of the naacp, urban league, action network agreed to work together on voter registration and voter turnout on a nonpartisan basis in key midterm election states to make sure that our turnout is up. and we want to attach to that that they will, the candidates will address an agenda on how they will close the gap in education, close the gap in employment, close the gap in health care. secondly, we talked about how we want to invest in minority banks, and therefore those banks take a real onus in terms of the problem of foreclosures and bank loans for small businesses. third, we said we wanted to close the achievement gap in education, and that we re going to measure and mark how we deal with the fact that reading and math scores are generally four years apart in terms of black to white students. is this some of the new civil rights agenda? and i say that because we ve seen two major civil rights icons just pass away this past week, dorothy hite, benjamin hooks, at the time when you were calling these people together, it sounds like you re pivoting the country for a new civil rights agenda. yes, i think it is a new civil rights agenda. and i think it is an agenda that is an extension of what some of the icons that are passing and some that are aging have done. but it s in a 21st century landscape. we saw in the 20th century from the 60s through the 90s the fight for freedom. free access to public accommodations and jobs and the right to vote. the battle in the 21st century is equality. it is time for our generation to interpret what is going on and the generations behind us to be prepared to take the reins and move it forward. the president s former mentor has said that you re instrumental in connecting the obama administration to the black community. in particular, i think the term link to the streets was used. how do you feel about that? well, i don t know what he meant about that, but i certainly have been one that has done my activism on the ground. and you could say in the streets where our chapters connection network are. we try to stay right in the core of the community. and i think you ve always had different traditions in civil rights. you have had those that have been more corporate and those that have been more grassroots, church-based, on the street. i come out of that tradition. i come out of operation breadbasket right after dr. king died when i was a teenager. so i m very comfortable operating in my lane. i think that if all of us in the movement and in leadership operate in our lane, we compliment each other and get down one big highway. all right, reverend al sharpton, thank you very much. appreciate it. thank you. absolutely. our what matters segment is a chance to take a look at some of the stories in the african-american community that affect all of us. for more, check out the may issue of essence magazine or log on to cnn.com/whatmatters. the new immigration bill in her state. live pictures here of her state. jan brewer actually has until tomorrow to either veto this bill or let it become law. she is going to announce her decision, really, at any moment now. these are protesters at the state capitol. they re demanding that she not sign this controversial bill. basically, it would require immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times. also, police would have to question anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally. there are also a penalty for anyone who knowingly hires or transports people in the u.s. illegally. critics say it would cause racial profiling. supporters say the federal government doesn t enforce immigration law, so this would actually fill in the void. and there is jan brewer about to talk to us. good afternoon, everyone. thank you all for being here today to join me as we take another step forward in protecting the state of arizona. the bill i m about to sign into law, senate bill 1070 represents another tool for our state to use as we work to solve a crisis that we did not create and the federal government has refused to fix. the crisis caused by illegal immigration in arizona s borders. this bill, the support law enforcement and safe neighborhoods act strengthens the laws of our state. it protects all of us, every arizona citizen and everyone here in our state lawfully. and it does so while ensuring that the constitutional rights of all in arizona remain solid, stable, and steadfast. i will now sign senate bill 1070. i need my glasses. and there you have it. the governor of arizona, jan brewer, is signing senate bill 1070 into law. the law of the land in arizona. joining me now is sonny hoffman from our sister network tru tv. she is here to help us understand the legal implications. sunny and i talked about it right before the governor went to the podium, and i asked you what did you think she was going to do. and you pretty much knew what she was going to do. this isn t unexpected. it s still sad. it s still sad that this governor didn t have the courage to feet this bill. and the fact that she says the constitutional rights of all in arizona will remain solid, stable and steadfast, it s just not true. i think that this bill and now this new law is facially unconstitutional. people have a right, richelle, to be protected in their persons, in their homes against unreasonable searches and seizures. and the fact now that explain it will lead to what you call unreasonable search and seizure. absolutely. because now officers have the legal right to look at someone and decide that that is a reasonable suspicion to stop them, even maybe frisk them just on the basis of their appearance. so if i m standing there as a latina, standing on the corner maybe waiting for my family members to pick me up, that could provide a reasonable suspicion for an officer to ask me for let s say my driver s license. if i don t have it, that would give them the authority to arrest me and bring me in to jail and process me. and that is absolutely unconstitutional. okay, sunny, let me ask it to you from the other side. people who support this simply say we are enforcing the laws that are already on the books. we are enforcing laws that the federal government has not been enforcing, and they re saying what is wrong with expecting someone to be here legally. well, that s really intellectually dishonest. why so? and i challenge those people who say that, because the federal law does provide federal law enforcement officers the authority to perhaps border patrol and protect citizens within 25 miles of the border. it does not allow police officers, state police officers to act against immigration and to enforce those laws. that is not the province of the states. it s the province of the federal government. so the fact that they say it s just strengthening those laws, that is not accurate at all. do you expect court challenges to this? well, no question. i think we ll see it on several paths. i think certainly, again, it s unconstitutional on its face. president obama commented and alluded to that. called it misguided. misguided. i think we ll see a challenge immediately now that it s in law. if people are smart, i think they ll sort of plan for someone to be challenged in arizona the minute that legal person is arrested. that will be the initial court case. and i think there will also be civil cases brought. so we re going to see a lot of litigation surrounding this new law. okay, sunny, thank you for your perspective. we appreciate it very much. we ve been asking for your views on this. we actually started talking about this last week. you have been very passionate about it. i got a lot of responses very quickly on my facebook page. i m going to read some of them to you. akira sent us this. i think this might actually make it worse. most police might use this law and she put that in quotes, as an excuse to be more cruel. christina says this. she is speaking about president obama weighing in on it. she says he is not the one living on the border, having to deal with all the illegal aliens coming into the country. it s time someone starts to take control of the problem. eric says i m against the bill. it doesn t really solve the immigration problem, and it causes more racial profiling and hate within our state. and this. jail time and hefty fines for employers who hire illegals will halt illegal immigration if enforced. that s our only solution. i got an e-mail from stewart in ft. worth, texas. as a former federal agent, i learned firsthand how border patrol and inns were all too often precluded from enforcing the immigration laws on the books and effectively have their hands tied due to politics. i applaud arizona legislators strength and fortitude in tackling this issue which for too long was ignored by the proper federal agencies. and it will be interesting to see if lawmakers in texas in fact do have their eyes on this. thank you for all of your responses for your views. we appreciate it. let s move on with some more of the day s news, something we ve been getting your feedback on as well. former governor sarah palin, just today in tennessee, a former college student is on trial for allegedly hacking into her e-mail account
