election year with less than two weeks from the first votes being cast in iowa, followed closely by new hampshire. i gotta say, it feels kind of sleep here then i would have thought a year ago with the possibility of a real competitive primary. this candidates realize they have little to no paths and the nomination they began dropping out. now it seems like the only plausible competitor threatening donald trump's path is nikki haley. national polls taken over the new year show trump maintaining roughly a 50 point lead over his nearest rival, which again, is not great or competitive at all really, with haley and ron desantis alternating and at second place spot. while polls out of iowa also show trump largely, in new hampshire, it's a different story. haley is polling within 14 points of trump, as that primary approaches. it may seem like democrats don't we have an interest in how the republican primary shapes out. they likely do not care for any of the candidates. but they make a pretty persuasive argument that liberals in open primary states
