if you're taking metro to work today, leave the water bottles at home. the transit agency says it will not let riders drink water on its trains today. they did make an exception to the zero tolerance policy last weekend because of the intense heat. riders were allowed then to bring bottled water on board. but not today. >> they'd better drink up before they get on because it is going to be hot. i can feel the humidity back again, tom. >> it is. how would you like to be wearing a helmet and pads and out there mixing it up? fortunately, it is a morning practice for the skins. if you do have plans for outdoor exercise and for outdoor recreation, the morning hours are going to be the most pleasant as we are going to have a day with high heat right now around the region. the humidity is back. it did return yesterday, and it's been in place overnight. we have clouds coming through that have elevated the temperatures. right now it's a steamy 82 in washington, and right around the bay it's in the upper 70s and throughout much of the region. in the rural areas, though, we've dipped down into the low 70s to near 70 degrees. few locations out of the mountains now are in the upper 60s to mid-60s there. over the last 12 hours, here's what's been happening. the radar showing showers and thunder showers that did pass north and northeast of washington. there's one diminishing thunder shower way up in northeast maryland that's going to be dissipating as it moves southeast into delaware the next couple of hours. right now we've got that hazy sky over washington. that's the live picture from our city camera. sunrise 6:06. by 9:00 we'll be pushing 90. by noontime the mid-90s. by midafternoon near 100 degrees. it will feel like 105 or so with that combination of the humidity. better news for the weekend. we'll look at that coming up. the "night planner" is in ten minutes. >> good morning. we have a few accidents affecting your morning commute. in virginia on the 95, this is the hov lanes at the franconia springfield parkway, all lanes are blocked due to this accident. police, fire, and ambulance are on the scene there. also traveling 95 north at route 1, you're going to see an accident blocking your right and center lane. stay to the left to get by this accident. and if you're traveling 95 south as you make your way past quantico, you're going to see an accident there past your left shoulder lane. the beltway in maryland looks very good. this is a look at connecticut avenue. i'll be back in ten minutes with another update. eun and joe, back to you. some teenagers are accused of breaking into a fire station in southeast washington. according to the "washington examiner," they ransacked the fire station along atlantic street on tuesday while crews were fighting a fire on savannah street. they trashed the watch officer's desk and stole some items, including a uniform, a camera, a wallet, and a firefighter's bmw. the teens reportedly took the car for a joyride and ditched it. so far there have been no arrests. today will be leslie johnson's last day on the prince george's county council. johnson's resignation takes effect on sunday. the council will hold a special election within 90 days. there are four potential candidates. johnson decided to step down after she, along with her husband, former county executive jack johnson, pled guilty in a federal bribery and extortion case. this morning the first woman attacked by that serial slasher who has been cutting women on their rear ends in northern virginia decided to tell her story. she asked us to call her jennifer. the 20-year-old was pregnant at the time she noticed a man following her. she walked out of the fair oaks mall back in february. >> all of a sudden, he's like right there behind me, and i felt like a pinch on my bottom, and i just thought he like grabbed me. and i was like, hey, you just cut my leggings. and he was like, no, no, no, it was my bag. >> police say the slasher is targeting women in their teens and early 20s. they say the suspect has been using a small box cutter or razor in all five attacks in fairfax county. if you recognize the man from the pictures, call police. police are trying to figure out who killed a woman and left her body on the balcony of her apartment in prince george's county. a neighbor reported the smell of gas and called for help in the 4600 block of dallas place in temple hills. when firefighters arrived, they found the woman suffering from trauma to the body. police say three people live in the apartment where the body was found. they are talking with them to figure out a time line in this case. one virginia university's future is in jeopardy, and some of its foreign students may be forced to leave the country immediately. this after federal agents raided the school's offices. news 4 has learned that immigration officials are concerned the university of northern virginia has been allowing too many foreign students into the country. news 4's jackie benson was first on the scene in yesterday's raid. she has the latest. >> reporter: into the evening, agents from u.s. immigration and customs enforcement filled a truck with documents taken from the offices of the university of northern virginia. the school's annandale campus, one of three northern virginia locations, shares a small three-story office building on little river turnpike with a korean travel agency and a medical clinic. the federal agents descended on the university's administrative offices, which occupied two suites and an office building next door, thursday afternoon. at issue, post-9/11 regulation of student visas, known as the student and exchange visitor program. the highly coveted visas are issued by the schools themselves. they agree to follow federal regulations. students must attend on campus classes and not break the law by using visas to get a job. they make up the number of the student body said to number more than 2,000. students and grad students stood by as federal agents carried out their work. >> students are coming from india to get their visa at the u.s. embassy. >> but you went to school? >> yes. we attend regular classes all in the week and attend exam and all the things. i don't know what is the problem. >> reporter: in a statement, a spokesperson for immigration and customs enforcement said "today officials from i.c.e. served university of northern virginia officials a notice of intent to withdraw the authorization to admit foreign students." jackie benson, news 4 today. officials from public county schools are investigating the theft of a hard drive that contained student information. it went missing from glenkirk elementary school in virginia. it included students' names, addresses, and grades, but did not include social security numbers. parents are being notified, and school officials are being available on monday and tuesday to answer questions on the theft. ahead a crackdown on metro bus drivers. why the agency reportedly fired 20 drivers since february. well, you have heard of dogs playing dead as a cute trick, but how about doing it to trick another dog? oh, dear, look at that. the smaller dog rosie keeps running around playing with her friend. after a playful bite on her neck, rosie goes down of the the playmate obviously confused, stares at her until she pops back up again and starts playing again. the person who uploaded the video says this kind of attention seeking is not unusual for her, down she goes. >> that is a great trick. >> that is and virginia. right now we've got a hazy sky. we've had some passing showers and thunder showers north and northeast of washington overnight. now those are beginning to break up. there's one lingering thunder shower far northeastern maryland heading into delaware. we've got a hazy sky over washington now. our sunrise is at 6:06. by 9:00 we'll be in the upper 80s. we'll have hazy sunshine throughout the day. by noontime into the mid-90s, and then midafternoon we ought to get up to around 100 degrees, maybe a little hotter in fredericksburg, culpepper, warrenton. those areas could see temperatures perhaps even into the low 100s by midafternoon with the heat index up to around 105 to 110. and then this evening a warm and muggy evening. we'll still be in the mid-90s by 7:00 and by midnight down into the mid-80s under a hazy sky. a look at the weekend and into next week with your beach forecast coming up in ten minutes. danella, how's traffic? >> good morning. still a tough commute. traveling using cell phones behind the wheel. that's according to "washington examiner." metro caught all of the drivers on camera. they caught them speeding, driving without seat belts, and running red lights. metro suspended more than 200 bus drivers for those offenses. it could take you a little longer than usual if you're taking metro this weekend. track work will cause major delays on the red, orange, blue, and yellow lines. trains will be single tracking between van ness and friendship heights and between takoma and forest glen on the red line. that could cause half hour delays. orange line trains are sharing a track between convenient na and west falls church. you want to add 20 additional minutes if you're taking the blue line. trains are single tracking between armory and addison road and between braddock road and orange street. on the yellow line trains single tracking from braddock road. family mourns the loss of a teen killed in a single car crash in frederick county. this morning grief counselors will be available to students at walkersville high school even though school is out this summer. rising senior jackie was returning home with friends when the car she was riding in wrecked wednesday night. the honors student was on the swim team. >> she was loved. that's about it. she was loved. >> police say she was in the backseat when the teen driver lost control and hit a tree. another passenger who also attends walkersville high school is in critical condition. no charges have been filed. authorities from virginia, new york, and philadelphia are helping the search for a missing 11-year-old girl from new hampshire. celina cass disappeared from her home monday night. she lives close to the canada border. there are no signs she ran away. they have not issued an amber alert and are currently treating it as a missing persons case. an alert clerk at a gun shop might have prevented another attack at ft. hood military base. abdo was awol, and police found potential bomb making materials and at least one gun in his motel room. he also told authorities he was planning to attack fellow soldiers on the military post where 13 people were killed on a shooting spree nearly two years ago. the families of those held in iran hope their loved ones will be released. josh fattal and shane bauer have been held on espionage charges since 2009. bauer's fiancee was released last september. they were hiking and illegally crossed the border from iraq to iran. the hearing comes on the second anniversary of their arrest. it's also the day before ramadan. freeing charges. a pilot is lucky to be alive after his plane crash landed in michigan's lake huron. michael trap had to tread water for 18 hours without a life jacket. he said he swam 15 miles and could see the shore but could not make it. finally this morning a fishing boat saw him and plucked him out of the water. trapp said the thought of his family kept him afloat the whole time. tropical storm don threatens to ruin vacations for some people along the texas coastline. officials turned away campers arriving at the padre island national seashore in south texas. tropical storm don is swirling in the gulf of mexico. don is expected to make landfall sometime tomorrow morning. many texans are actually looking forward to the rain it will bring. nearly the entire state has been in an extreme drought. >> wow. it seems like we haven't had rain in a little while here either, tom. >> it's abnormally dry here too. many lawns starting to brown out. doesn't look like we're going to have any significant rain here in the foreseeable future. right now we're dealing with high humidity, though, around the region. we are muggy. it's certainly warm in washington and by the bay, where temperatures are around 80 degrees. 82 at reagan national. right now at prince george's county, temperatures in the mid-70s. it's in the low 70s in montgomery and fairfax counties. mid-70s now arlington county. and farther west around the shenandoah valley, it's in the 60s to near 70 there. 60s out of the mountains and lower eastern shore and parts of delaware and maryland, they've had temperatures elevated because of the cloud cover there. there's also been a few passing showers and thunder showers overnight along the pennsylvania border. there's one right here in far northeastern maryland heading off into delaware. otherwise, we've got hazy skies all around the region, and the heat will be building today. we'll have our temperatures by 9:00 already pushing 90 degrees. mid-90s by noontime. ought to get near 100 by midafternoon, maybe even get into the low 100s, fredericksburg to culpepper, warrenton. by late afternoon into the upper 90s. sunrise today at 6:06. sunset at 8:22. it's certainly going to be a hot evening. we'll be in the 90s to upper 80s through the evening. there's your "night planner" under a hazy sky. heading to the beach, here's the beach forecast. the water temperatures are certainly warm. the buoy there at the inlet at ocean city is reporting a water temperature of 79 degrees now. for saturday a good day at the beach although it's going to be rather hot around 90 or so. winds shifting into the northeast saturday afternoon. that ought to cool down a bit saturday late afternoon. on sunday a bit cooler with a southeasterly breeze bringing in cooler waters of the atlantic off the beaches. in the 80s and partly sunny. for the rest of the weekend, the rest of the region will be in the mid-90s tomorrow, and we'll have a partly cloudy sky with lower humidity and lower humidity around on sunday as well as monday with highs low 90s and partly cloudy both days. only a slight chance of a thunder shower maybe monday night and perhaps again on thursday. otherwise, looks like a dry pattern all the way into next week with highs low to mid-90s and not too humid. you can check the weather 24/7 weather channel on cable. here's a look at traffic. highway administration said the trail will allow bicyclists to ride from the shady grove station to the marc station in laurel. today president obama will be at the washington convention center to announce new fuel economy standards. beginning in 2025 automakers will have to make cars and trucks that get on average 54 miles to the gallon. the white house says that will not only help consumers at the pump, but it will also hopefully reduce u.s. dependence on foreign oil and cut down on pollution. attention single ladies. looking for mr. right? you may be looking for love in all the wrong
