more nice weather today straight through the weekend and then changes begin on monday. so let's talk about what is happening right now. it is a cold start to the day. in the district, we are at 40 degrees. our temperature is going to start -- itis actually going to drop down to 38. it has just dropped down to 38. it is just not reflected on the map yet. 33 at dulles. 32 in baltimore. frederick, maryland, 27 degrees. it is cold out. you need a coat this morning. here is a look at the satellite- radar composite for the region. quiet conditions, clear skies through our area. lots of sunshine again for us today once the sun comes up which will happen this morning around 6:46 or something like that. here is your forecast for today. sunny, a mild afternoon. high about 64 degrees. do enjoy it, folks. got a good weekend coming up too. >> let's see how we are on back to work day. >> i was just thinking that. it is interesting we are back to work. are we? are some people going to sneak out and extend the weekend and enjoy the weather? we could see another change in the traffic pattern today. no trouble spots to report headed down towards the capital beltway. northbound i-95 in the clear leaving lorton headed up towards newington. the construction should now be cleared over at 66. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. we're continuing to follow breaking news at this hour. a d.c. neighborhood startled by gunfire overnight. police are looking into a deadly shooting in northeast. sherry ly joins us live with the details. >> reporter: good morning. the shooting happened just after 3:00 this morning. a number of people called 911 reporting the sound of gunshots. when d.c. police arrived here, they found the victim right down in that area inside fort circle park around 11th and galloway streets northeast or near the entrance to the park. investigators have shut down the streets for several blocks between eighth and 12th streets as they search the area for evidence. the victim appears to be a man. police say he was lying face down unconscious and not breathing. he was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead. a number of investigators are here from d.c. police as well as u.s. park police. this is u.s. park property. however, since this is now a murder investigation, d.c. police are handling this case. k-9 units have also been out here on the scene this morning. it is unclear if they were able to pick up any scent on a suspect. police, we're told, do have a lookout for a vehicle that may be related to this case. it is being described as a grayish colored vehicle that may be a chevy tahoe. no word on who the victim was or what motive may have led to this shooting. we do know now we had a murder investigation on our hands. d.c. police are investigating and as we got more details, we'll bring them to you. >> thank you. other stories making headlines, a tour bus full of veterans catches on fire. this happened just after 10:00 last night near the 14th street bridge in arlington. the engine caught on fire. firefighters quickly put out the flames. virginia state police say nobody was injured. president obama says he and world leaders have put the global economy back on track. he have he was speaking at a news conference this morning. the president also says he and his summit partners have to work more to resolve differences over trade and currency. and disputed reports that the summit had failed. >> it is puzzling to me that the reporting is all talking about conflict when the communique actually reflects a hard within won consensus that the world's 20 large of the economies signed up for. >> president obama is now on his way to another economic summit in japan. it is a growing problem with metro. the escalators seem to be having a lot of trouble. yesterday alone, nearly 125 were out of service system-wide an even more taken out of service as part of the transit authority's emergency maintenance inspects and brakes on the escalator. several were found to be worn out during that process and riders say they are getting tired it was. >> everywhere i go, i ride metro quite a bit and the escalators are out and like the one here today. i just saw no reason for it. >> metro says it still has some 200 escalators to inspect and that could mean more outages over the next few weeks. >> metro is definitely the safest or one of of the safest ways to get to and from work, to get to the store, to get to other things. it is far safer than driving. metro should be as safe as possible. we would like escalators to be 100% safe. we would like trains to be 100% safe. but metro is still much safer than other ways of getting from place to place. thousands of cruise ship passengers are back on dry land after they were stuck out at sea for three days. a fire in an engine room cut power to the ship on monday. >> a lot of toilets weren't working the whole entire cruise. the whole food area man from el salvador died of cancer that went undiagnosed for more than a year while he was in state custody. the court says the state prisons are partially to blame. this is a case of a demolition >> i want to meet the contractors because i would like them to do some work at my house. >> we can pool the money if we can get one of those. >> maybe we'll check that out. if we need to make a correction, we will. >> can you imagine a ship that carries 7,000 people. >> when you stand next to one. those, it just blows you away. >> you can't get the full effect of it just looking at the pictures. and you're right, maybe they have hot water and hot food. >> this morning, you may want to go on a cruise because it is cold this morning. it will become mild later on today and through the weekend as well. let's take a look at the temperatures around the region. currently in washington, we have dropped to have 38 degrees now. so plenty of 30s out there. manassas, 27 degrees. gaithersburg, 28. frederick, maryland, 28 degrees. off to the east, it is 42 degrees in annapolis and in baltimore, it is 31 degrees. can we get the prompter switched, please. all right. here we go. 39 in pittsburgh. you take a look at what is happening across the northeast. it is cold. high pressure has allowed things to remain calm. we haven't had much in the way of clouds. so the heat we get just radiates out. mid-60s today. yes, we have amended tomorrow's forecast to take the temperature into the upper 60s. going to be a very nice day on saturday. even on sunday, mid-60s, not bad at all. temperatures begin to drop off monday. we'll take 62. by monday night, cooler air will be coming in and we'll be in the 50s. satellite-radar picture for the region. plenty of high pressure in place to keep things quiet again today and through the weekend. there is a frontal boundary. eventually, that front gets here and brings us some cooler air. it won't bring this rain but another low pressure system will move along that front and will bring us some rain late monday night, during the day tuesday the way things look right now. forecast for today, sunny skies, a mild afternoon high, 64 degrees. for tonight, another cold night, clear skies. saturday and sunday, temperatures in the mid- and upper 60s. monday, partly cloudy. some rain beginning monday night and the redskins play monday night so we'll have to keep our eyes on that forecast. tuesday, rain possible through the day. 58degrees for your high. yes, gurvir? >> it was but it actually came into newport news when i was just a little thing. i don't remember the year but it was a long time ago and he got to work on it. >> that is very cool. >> a long time ago, i actually saw it. okay. never mind. >> i never know when my mike is i'm glad you saw it. >> on the roads, no accidents to report. lanes are open out of college park headed around towards 270. nice, easy drive on 95 and 295 coming in out of laurel. overall, a nice easy start coming from the north to the south. no problems to report at the wilson bridge. coming northbound i-95 out of lorton, all lanes are open as you work your way up to the capital beltway. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. the deal is stop or pay the fine. starting today, the warning phase over for d.c.'s new red light cameras. violators will start receiving tickets at these locations. hundreds of nurses at washington hospital center say they will stage a protest against the hospital the day before thanksgiving for what they are calling unfair labor practices. union members are upset that the hospital was refusing to address problems with understaffing which they say ultimately affects a patient's care. to cut the national debt, president obama's commission has unveiled a whole host of suggestions, everything from government ideas aimed directly at taxpayers. tom fitzgerald has more. >> reporter: they came up with the plans. >> this debt is like a cancer. this country is out of money. >> i think we have to be straight with the american people. >> we left no oxes ungored. >> reporter: like that mortgage deduction, one of the ideas is to get rid of it along with many tax deducks. >> no, no, not at all. >> that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. >> wall street put the money in banks for me but they take it. >> reporter: most folk stop working when they are 65 but what if they raised the retirement age up to 69. >> i'm not sure about that. >> democrats wanted to da that. republicans wanted to do that and we get screwed. >> how many people though end up getting close to their retirement age, lose their retirement. >> reporter: how would you feel about an extra 15-cent tax when you go to fill up your car? >> my plan is to go to harvard law, become a district or state attorney and go to the state senate and come back. >> which state? >> i don't know yet. >> reporter: that takes confidence. but dion jones is a plan with a plan. >> state senate, going to congress, go back to the state and run for governor and then become president. >> you want to be the president? >> yes. >> reporter: he is really driven, passionate about education, wants to run for office, he says, so he can help. >> the education system that i came from, the teachers there are great but they just don't have the resources they need to ensure that every single student succeeds. i was so glad the campaign was over. >> reporter: jones is already making a mark on campus with other student government leaders. >> what an outstanding opportunity. >> reporter: he has a lot on his plate for a 19-year-old. at americanuniversity,, karen gray houston, fox 5 news. >> awesome. >> reporter: that there has been a deadly shooting inside a park. d.c. police on the scene investigating just what led to the gunfire. we'll have the latest details coming up. set your pace to island time. rich chocolate over creamy coconut. almond joy and mounds. enjoy more. we take a look at traffic on the wilson bridge this morning. a little chilly start to the day but we've had a pretty good week so far and we'll see if we can continued that. >> we will. however, we have to get through this morning. it is cold out. we've been talking through much of the week, it has been cool. we've had some cold spots here and there. this is cold. let me show you the temperatures at the area airports. we are in the 30s all across the region right now. reagan national airport, it is 38 degrees. dulles and bwi marshall are both at 31 degrees. so this morning, you will need a coat as we've got cold conditions across the area. satellite-radar picture, we have clear skies, nothing going on out there. we'll see a lot of sunshine again today. that trend will continue. that will allow us to warm up into the 60s again. it will be another day with temperatures above normal. so your forecast simply put looks like this. i do want to mention there is a coastal flood advisory in effect for some easterly flow. that is pushing the water up against the western shore of the chesapeake bay and along the river so coastal flood advisory. meanwhile, your temperatures for today, look for highs into the low 60s, low to mid-60s, sunny all through the day. we'll have more details on the forecast coming up in just a little bit. >> thank you. let's check in with julie and get a look at traffic. i think you're right, some people may tax -- take a long weekend. >> i think that is what i would do if i had thought of it. >> traffic flowing freely out out of oxon hill. no trouble spots to report on the beltway between college park and bethesda. traveling northbound 395, easy commute leaving duke street to seminary road headed up towards the capital beltway. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. we are following breaking news in the city. a deadly shooting overnight. it happened earlier this morning at 11th and galloway streets. that is northeast d.c. and that is where sherry ly is with the latest details. >> reporter: police still have this entire area blocked off while they investigate and try to figure out just what went down here at fort circle park. we do know a man's body was found in that area of the park murdered. a number of people called 911 just after 3:00 this morning reporting the sound of gunfire. d.c. police were first on the scene to investigate. minutes later, they found the man lying face down unconscious and not breathing. no word on how many times he had been shot or where. he was transported to the hospital, rescuers unable to revive him. the victim was later pronounced dead. police closed the area around the park which is at galloway and 11th streets in northeast. u.s. park police were called in since this is u.s. park property. since this is a homicide, d.c. police are now handling this case. the identification of the victim has not been released but that is not unusual early in the investigation while next of kin are still being notified. police do have a lookout from what we understand for a vehicle that may be linked to this murder. it is being described as grayish in color, possibly a chevy tahoe. as of now, police are still searching for a suspect. it is unclear just what led to this shooting. back to you. a tour bus full of veterans catches fire. this is a photo that shows all the smoke . it happened just after 10:00 last night. the engine caught fire. virginia state police say nobody was injured. president obama has left the g-20 summit in south korea, now on his way to another economic summit in japan. he spoke ate apress conference as the meeting wrapped up overnight. the president deflected criticism that the g-0 summit did not meet white house expectations and says his relationships with world leaders like china's president is now stronger than when he came into office two years ago. he spoke about trade negotiations with south korea and the mideast peace process. a gro
