games i'm stressed thinking about it. all right, talking about the weather this looks a lot better than it did, these heat alerts than what we were dealing with last week and still got 37 million people under these alerts stretching from basically wichita to oklahoma city and down through dallas out to new orleans. the southwest not included in this, parts of the southeast not included in this. but still some record breaking temperatures are out there for parts of the south here as we get into the afternoon hours today. one of those spots being dallas heads to 107. that would tie a record for today, and doesn't get a lot better for tomorrow either. houston 103, that record 104. when we look up to the east and north west, we finally got back to average conditions like places in new york and low 80s and major improvements in d.c. low to mid-80s and end up in the high 80s by the time saturday rolls around but we've also got showers and thunderstorms to talk about. this morning most of that is focused off towards the rockies and we could be talking about

dallas out to west texas. but it is just hot and humid and gross. a lot of areas here, i was looking at brownsville, feels like 111 right now. new orleans feels like 107 already. here we are in the lunch hour here in the central time zone, dallas, 104. it is a really hot, humid, gross type of air mass. we will be near some records. yesterday we were just shy of the record high in dallas, you get the idea here. and then tomorrow we'll do it all over again. no relief coming from the north, no cool air, no rain, no tropical systems, which is good, i guess. it is still really, really hot and dry throughout the region. and then as we look toward the edges, the actual temperatures are very warm in all areas that we just talked about. it is going to continue that way and here is your august outlook, chris. new england, great lakes, kind of normal. mid-atlantic, but down along the gulf coast, this is where we continue to bake. one of the things people are talking about with the water

southern plains with a few outliers in the east coast. temperatures will feel like 110 in houston this afternoon. 113 in baton rouge. 112 in shreveport. 109 in new orleans. so, just incredibly hot and temperatures are going to stay above average throughout much of south. below average temperatures taking hold across the northern rockies and the northern plains. high temperatures in the west staying hot. phoenix, 107 today could be the first day that we have stayed below 110 in 31 days. if you can believe it. so, really seeing a brief break from the heat, by only a couple of degrees. but then it doesn't last long. temperatures soar right back up above 110 for the remainder of the week, omar. so it is going to be a brutal week ahead even though the numbers quite aren't as large but still very oppressive heat across the same areas. >> wow.

americans under heat alerts in the mississippi plains and meteor meteorologist jennifer gray, air conditioning is that an actual improvement over what we saw last week? is there any relief? >> well it's a huge improvement in terms of numbers because we're down to 60 million compared to pretty much double that last week. but it's not much help for the people that are living in it, of course, for today and the next several days. we're really focusing on the deep south and portions of the southern plains, dallas, houston, new orleans, oklahoma city. under the excessive heat warnings, heat advisories. we'll see temperatures in the triple digits when you factor in the heat index. it will feel even hotter. 107 in dallas, 102 in houston had 102 in oklahoma city. could break 30 records or more throughout the week. most of those are centered across the deep south and the

help we've done before. today's forecast high only 107. it looks like a couple days below 110. a new streak. where is the heat headed? it goes from the southwest to right over the top of dallas. we'll be talking a lot about dallas and the areas in texas and southern oklahoma, arkansas, louisiana, over the next couple days. that's we have excessive heat warnings. new orleans on pace for your hottest summer you've ever recorded. under an excessive heat warning. let's see who the hottest is right now? dallas, 10 degrees. one of the rare occasions where dallas may end up just as hot as areas in the desert southwest. as far as possible records go, all these little dots show us where we could see record highs today, nine different states. once again, florida -- the water is so warm around florida right now, even during the day, it

96, monroe, louisiana, 100 degrees, both monday and tuesday. and when we factor in the dew point, that measurement of moisture near the surface, when it's 70 plus with a temperature of 95, it feels like 103 degrees in montgomery, alabama, and jacksonville, florida, at 108 degrees there. you see the northeast the great lakes back down closer to where should be. when we get that heat settling in we wind up with heat advisory, houston, dallas, oklahoma city, new orleans, jacksonville, miami, the florida keys under that advisory. areas in fuchsia, that's an excessive heat warning for places like tallahassee and these areas are going to be dealing with this today and tomorrow, but eventually we will get to see a bit of a cooldown like phoenix, 111 be degrees today. add to that another day with consecutive days above 110. at 107 on monday, that monsoonal rain coming in. next week back up top 115 degrees.
