A host of mainly liberal US Jewish groups have welcomed yesterday’s guilty verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Chauvin was convicted of murder and manslaughter for pinning George Floyd to the pavement with his knee on the Black man’s neck in a case that touched off worldwide protests, violence and a furious reexamination of racism and policing in the US. Many of the Jewish groups made a point of stating that the Chauvin’s conviction is not enough on its own and that much reform is needed to address systemic racism in the US.
