Trump on Trial New York v. Donald Trump

had to lie on your books and records, you had to falsify those records, and that's a crime. so picking a theme, sticking to a 'em that, keeping it simple. these are all standard prosecutorial tools. now, whether or not it works, that's not going to turn on the opening statement. that's going to turn, of course, on the evidence introduced at trial. this is precisely how prosecutors do it. i was a prosecutor for a long time. i tried dozens of cases. i would love to think i won most of those cases because of advocacy. that's not true. you win a case or lose a case in a court of law because you have evidence. so the opening statement is only a preview of that. the evidence will be what matters the most. >> right now we're reading from this document and the reporting coming out of the courtroom that colangelo presenting the opening statement, is actually reading from part of the indictment to the jury.

to perform at his coronation. bryn terfel*s towering presence and booming voice is also effective off stage. he's a big champion of the arts and relishes bringing music to the public. i think we're in a time when lots of cultural institutions — and classical music itself, perhaps — is being called into question. what's the value of it? is it too elitist? and a figure like bryn is what we need — somebody who symbolises, really, the power of communication and music. it's about showing how important music is in all of our lives. he embodies that and that is the most powerful advocacy he can perform for music. everything he does conveys that love of singing, and it's completely infectious. and the fact that he is passing

it hasn't. .. i don't think the media has done itself — has not really — it's not had a good episode here. i think there are exceptions but, really, the running has been done by generalists — predominantly by female journalists — and all of the health and science specialists have been absent. there really wasn't the support from the wider bbc. and, rebecca coombes, if i could bring you in — you're head ofjournalism at the british medicaljournal. would you agree? would you say that science journalists avoided this subject? i'm afraid i would, actually. why? why did they? i think there was a real hesitancy, and i'm hopeful that post—cass, the hesitant might be more courageous in stepping into the silence. i think there was a real mishmash between evidence and advocacy, and that became a problem.

at their ease because i say, "look, it's ok, we can laugh, you do not have to worry "about what you are going to say. "we will be friends." that is really important. because people, yeah, you are right. at heart, they are still worried about disability because they have been told that disability is a terrible thing. yeah, i know that in your advocacy work, and you have worked in academia, but you have also worked at the united nations and around the world in disability rights and advocacy. your point comes to a pretty simple one, in essence, that what we call disability is primarily difference. yeah. and we need to understand that if society creates the right conditions, that difference need not be a negative. indeed, it can be a positive, but at least it can be a level playing field so people can be judged on their merits and not

as much a good point -- there was a time when higher education was pursuit of the truth. and truth is meaningless now because education is advocacy. nicole: yeah, well, it certainly is. you listen to ilhan omar say she is pursuit against genocide, and the reality is genocide is october 7th. what happened there when hamas infiltrated into israel and brutally massacred women, children and other and continuing with their anti-israel sentiment. one of their fundamentals is the destruction of the israeli people. and not just israeli people, but jews as a whole. and so that is what genocide is. and when they continue to call for a ceasefire, we have to continue to remind hem the only people rejecting the ceasefire right now is hamas. pete: yeah. by the way, at yale some students are entering if their eighth day of hunger strikes. it just feels like everyone's trying to up the ante, and where does it lead to? i don't know, the dnc convention. that seems to be where they
