In addition, the mayor said the panel should “make recommendations to city and school elected officials and staff on policies, practices and procedural changes that will ensure measurable reductions in poverty in Lewiston.”
Cayer said the city and schools spend millions of dollars annually to reduce the symptoms of poverty. Reducing it, he has often said, would help everybody.
“Everyone in this community, whether a CEO making six figures or a family barely getting by, brings value to our community, and we are seeking a collaborative effort to reduce poverty,” he said in a prepared statement. “Building a community that allows every member to thrive is what improves our well-being.”

Stephen King Donates $6,500 To Lewiston School Kids To Publish Bo

Some students at Farwell Elementary School in Lewiston are in the process of writing a 290 page manuscript based on their experiences during the coronavirus pandemic. It's all part of the schools "Author Studies Program". Even though some of the students have graduated and moved on to middle school, all of the stories the students have been working on for the past four years, doing things like mapping out the character development, plot, etc., will end up resulting in two books, an original and then, a sequel and of course, a 290-page manuscript.
Now when it comes to writing and publishing a book there are cost considerations to keep in mind so the students started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for publication. They were hoping to raise about $6,500....that is until a Maine author by the name of Stephen King offered to cover all the costs of publishing the books.

Montgomery: The state has expanded who is eligible to receive immunizations against COVID-19, but health officials caution there’s still not enough vaccine for everyone who qualifies for a shot. As of Monday, everyone 65 and older, educators, grocery store workers, some manufacturing workers, public transit workers, agriculture employees, state legislators and constitutional officers is eligible to get vaccinated. Previously only health care workers, first responders, nursing home residents, and people 75 and older were eligible. “If you are eligible for a vaccine, then we will get you one if want to take it. But it is not going to happen immediately for everyone,” Dr. Scott Harris, the state health officer, told reporters Friday. Harris said an estimated 1.5 million people would be eligible for vaccines, but the state has been receiving only about 70,000 doses per week, and those not yet administered have been spoken for. The Alabama Department of Public Health site has a map of providers providing shots. The state is opening large, drive-thru clinics in Anniston, Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Selma and Tuscaloosa.

Author Stephen King is giving back, by donating thousands of dollars to an elementary school in his home state of Maine so that a group of students can publish their own books.
King will be donating $6,500 to Farwell Elementary School, located in Lewiston, Maine, so the students in its Author Studies Program can publish the two books they've written, Farwell Principal Amanda Winslow told CNN.
As a group, the students -- some of whom have graduated and are now in middle school -- have been working on the books over the course of four years -- mapping out the character development, plot, and overall storyline with the help of another Maine author, Winslow said. The end result is two books -- an original and a sequel -- and a 290-page manuscript.
