Golfer Amy Bockerstette's nickname is "Amazing Amy," and for good reason. On May 10, at the start of the 2021 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women's Golf Championship in Ormond Beach, FL, she made history as the first person with Down syndrome to compete in a national collegiate championship. She is a member of the Paradise Valley Community College women's golf team out of Phoenix, AZ, and was the first person with Down syndrome to receive a collegiate athletic scholarship in 2018. A school spokesperson confirmed she's currently studying music and dance.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A young woman from Arizona made history in college athletics this week when she tee’d off at Plantation Bay in Ormond Beach.
Amy Bockerstette, 22, is the first collegiate athlete with Down syndrome to compete for a championship while playing in the NJCAA Women’s Golf Championship along with her Paradise Valley Community College teammates.

Amy Bockerstette captured the heart of the nation after the video of her playing a practice hole with Gary Woodland at the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open went viral. Since then, the world has been able to celebrate with Amy as she continues to make history.
In high school, Amy became the first person with Down syndrome to compete in the Arizona High School Girls Golf Division I State Championship. When Amy joined the golf team at Paradise Valley Community College in 2018, she became the first person with Down syndrome to earn a collegiate athletic scholarship. And as of this morning, Amy is the first person with Down syndrome to compete in ANY national collegiate athletic championship.
