The Los Angeles Rams have agreed to terms on a trade to send receiver Van Jefferson and a seventh-round pick in 2025 to the Atlanta Falcons for a sixth-round pick in 2025, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Tuesday. Jefferson is a 2020 second-round pick who played a steady role on the Rams' offense when healthy for his first three NFL seasons.
After five games, the Los Angeles Rams don't look much better or much worse than most people predicted after their eventful offseason of roster-stripping and reconstruction. The Rams (2-3) have several very good players, but they have far more average players. Record-setting rookie receiver Puka Nacua is tops among a few young players showing they're ready for the prominent roles they've been given, but even more youngsters just aren't there yet.
Cooper Kupp is eligible to come off the injured list for a Week 5 game at home against the Philadelphia Eagles, but coach Sean McVay is not sure the receiver will be ready.
The Los Angeles Rams are clearly facing many weeks and months of work before they're a Super Bowl contender again. It's also increasingly clear Sean McVay has a collection of talented skill players who can make his schemes come to life in what could become an exciting year of renewal for his offense. The Rams have rarely emerged from meetings with the 49ers feeling good about themselves in the past half-decade, but Sunday's 30-23 loss had far more positives than most of those nine consecutive regular-season defeats.
