Games 1 and 2 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs take place this week with the top four teams from the regular season aiming to make their respective home-court advantages count at the start of the best-of-five series. Here’s your guide to the week’s action.
Can Real win at Efes again?
The opening tip-off for the first playoff action in two years comes on Tuesday in Istanbul, where Anadolu Efes will attempt to hold off visiting Real Madrid, with Game 2 following fast on Thursday. Efes has been unstoppable at home in recent months, winning eight consecutive games at Sinan Erdem Dome in a sequence dating back to December. However, the last visiting team to win at Efes was none other than Real Madrid with a 65-73 win in Round 17, and Coach Pablo Laso’s men have another reason to feel good about traveling to Istanbul after taking a powerful road win at Fenerbahce to qualify for the playoffs in the final game of the regular season.

Along with stockpiling draft picks, another thing Sam Hinkie did during his time in the Sixers' front office is roll the dice on international prospects. After years of playing overseas, one now-former Sixers' draft stash will be making his way to the NBA.
Back in 2014, the Sixers would draft international prospect Vasilije Micic with the 52nd overall pick. After years of playing in Turkey and for the Serbian national team, he is finally making the jump to the NBA.
Sadly when the 27-year-old Micic makes his NBA debut, it will not be for the Sixers. His draft rights, along with other draft picks, were sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Al Horford/Danny Green exchange on draft night.

The Serbia swingman was originally selected by the 76ers with the No. 52 pick in the 2014 draft. His rights were acquired by Oklahoma City in December as part of a multi-player deal that featured

Last season, the 6’6” Micic averaged 14.5 PPG and 5.8 APG while shooting 39.7% from distance for his Turkish club. In 32 games this season, he’s averaging 16.4 PPG and 5.0 APG in the EuroLeague.

Rudy's return following injury. The team now faces what are two cup finals in the bid to clinch a playoff spot. The first of these is on Friday, against Olympiacos.

As expected, this proved to be an extremely tight affair right from the get-go. Anadolu Efes made the brighter start with Simon the difference-maker (13 points). His success from the three-point line (three treys) handed the Turks the lead following an 11-18 run in the sixth minute.

Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade took a hard-fought victory by overcoming Panathinaikos OPAP Athens 82-86 on Friday night. The visitors trailed by double-digits, 59-48, after halftime but fired back with an overwhelming 0-18 run bridging the third and fourth quarters to take the lead for good. The race for the playoffs is hotter than ever in the most competitive Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season in history and several rivals will meet head-to-head in Round 30. Here is what you need to look out for in this week’s games.
Zenit seeks home comfort
With key victories last week by TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and Valencia Basket coupled with defeats for Real Madrid, Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, Zenit St Petersburg and Zalgiris Kaunas, the playoff race has further intensified with those six teams now separated by just two wins. And a couple of them square off in Round 30’s opening tip on Thursday when host Zenit (16-12) attempts to bounce back into form against Baskonia (15-14), which aims to maintain momentum following a victory over FC Bayern Munich.

Baskonia fights off Bayern comeback
TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz used a huge start to the third quarter before holding on to its big lead and downing visiting FC Bayern Munich 78-71 on Friday night at the Buesa Arena. Baskonia kept its playoffs chances intact, improving to 15-14, while Bayern dropped to 18-11 in fifth place. The game was close in the first half, but Baskonia opened the third quarter with a 27-2 run. However, Bayern answered with a big run of its own and came within 6 in the fourth quarter, but Baskonia held on. Tonye Jekiri led Baskonia with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Rokas Giedraitis and Achille Polonara also scored 15 apiece, Alec Peters and Luca Vildoza each scored 11 points, and Pierria Henry dished 10 assists. Jalen Reynolds starred for Bayern with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals. Vladimir Lucic scored 17 points and Wade Baldwin IV netted 13 in a losing effort.

This Week: Double the drama

March gets off to a fast and furious start as the first week of the month is bursting with 18 games as Rounds 27 and 28 bring the race for the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs towards its climax. Our guide to the action begins with an icon facing his former team on the brink of making more history.
Calathes chases more history in Athens
Tuesday will be an emotional night for Nick Calathes as the FC Barcelona (18-8) point guard makes his first return trip to play his former club, Panathinaikos OPAP Athens (9-15). Calathes spent eight seasons with the Greek giants and rewrote the history books in the process, setting the all-time EuroLeague record for assists in a single season on two occasions. Fittingly, Calathes returns to Athens this week on the verge of another piece of history: with 190 assists so far this season, he is just 3 behind Barca's all-time single-season record, achieved by Thomas Heurtel in the 2017-18 season. Getting the 4 assists he needs to reach another passing milestone at the OAKA Altion would be nothing new for Calathes, but he will doubtless be more focused on helping his team return to winning ways – and therefore ensure it keeps hold of first place in the standings – following last week's shock home loss against LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne. Barca then returns home to face fellow Spanish side TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz (13-13) in another big game on Friday.

Fantasy Challenge: Three players, two spots

Round 26 was a very unpredictable one in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. Anything could have happened in the Istanbul derby, but who would have thought that Anadolu Efes would beat Fenerbahce Beko by 32 points to stop its 10-game winning streak? Vasilije Micic had a near-perfect game and led Efes to an important win. Valencia Basket arrived for its road game against Zenit St Petersburg with good momentum, but beating the Russian powerhouse 62-91 was something no-one, not even the most optimistic
taronja fan, could have expected. Two more teams won the road in Round 26; CSKA Moscow edged Olympiacos Pireaus 74-75 in a back-and-forth game. Olympiacos was losing by 25 and came back to take the lead, but CSKA prevailed down the stretch. LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne topped FC Barcelona at Palau Blaugrana. It was its first road victory against Barcelona since 1996 and ASVEL is now on a six-game winning streak, its longest in the competition since the turn of the millennium. FC Bayern Munich, AX Armani Exchange Milan, Real Madrid, ALBA Berlin and TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz all won at home.

Zenit St Petersburg vs. Valencia Basket

Valencia dominates in St Petersburg
Valencia Basket chalked up its third consecutive victory with a dominating 62-91 road victory at Zenit St Petersburg on Thursday night at Sibur Arena. The final margin was Valencia's largest ever in a road game and Zenit's worst ever. Valencia raised its record to 14-12 while Zenit, which was held to a season-low in scoring, saw its record slip to 15-10. After Alex Poythress took a steal in for a slam to make it a 1-point game in the first minute of the second quarter, Valencia dominated the rest of the way, outscoring Zenit 19-47 over the game's final 17 minutes. Bojan Dubljevic led five Valencia scorers in double figures with 19 points. Nikola Kalinic shined with 12 points and a career-high 10 assists, Mike Tobey scored 12 off the bench and Derrick Williams and Sam Van Rossom added 10 points apiece. Alex Poythress paced Zenit with 12 points and Billy Baron had 11.

As always, the double-round week leaves some teams taking significant steps forward in the standings. Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul is the hottest team in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague right now, boasting an eight-game winning streak and playing better and better. It is no surprise that Jan Vesely was chosen as the EuroLeague MVP for January 2021. FC Barcelona beat Zenit St Petersburg at home and Olympiacos Piraeus on the road, and now leads the standings with a 17-6 record. AX Armani Exchange Milan also beat Zenit and Olympiacos and keeps challenging for not only a playoffs spot, but home-court advantage. Real Madrid and FC Bayern Munich were the other double winners in this round. Bayern beat Khimki Moscow Region and CSKA Moscow in the Russian capital, getting closer to its first-ever playoffs berth. There is still a long way to go and the playoffs race is set to be more interesting than ever.

Anadolu Efes Istanbul added both youth and experience in the same person on Thursday by signing forward Dzana Musa to its roster with a contract that lasts until 2023. Musa (2.06 meters, 21 years old) arrives from Brooklyn of the NBA, where he played 40 games over the last two seasons with averages of 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per game. Musa became one of the youngest players to ever debut in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague when he played his first game on October 15, 2015, for Cedevita Zagreb at 16 years, 5 months and 8 days old. He averaged 2.7 points and 1.3 rebounds in 10 games played that season and went on to be named the 7DAYS EuroCup Rising Star in 2017-18, his second season in that competition. Musa played 18 EuroCup games overall with Cedevita (now Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana) with averages of 8.2 and 2.8 rebounds.
