Demonstrators in Myanmar held protests demanding the restoration of Aung San Suu Kyi government on Monday and called for more coordinated nationwide dissent, defying the military’s moves to suppress attempts to rally opposition to its two-month rule.
Six people were killed at the weekend, according to activists, as police and soldiers used force to break up demonstrations that some protesters are calling a “spring revolution”.

AFP – An image has been shared in multiple posts on Facebook and Twitter alongside claims it shows an anti-coup protest in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city. The image, however, has been altered; although there have been huge crowds at protests against the military coup in Myanmar in February 2021, the image has been manipulated to make the demonstration appear larger.
The photo was published on Facebook on February 18, 2021. The post has been shared more than 180 times.
The post’s Thai caption translates to English as: “The power of Myanmar opposed the coup today! High angle shot of the four way intersection at Sule Pagoda, Yangon. Protestors disregard orders from the army against rallying, martial law or any warnings from the military! #MyanmarMob17Feb."

YANGON—Fourteen people, including two teachers, were released on Friday afternoon after being detained in the morning when security personnel cracked down on anti-coup protesters in Myitkyina, Kachin State.
The detainees were released by police at around 5:00 p.m. on Friday after the Peace-talk Creation Group (PCG), a Myitkyina-based group, mediated the case. The released protesters said they were forced to sign a paper saying they would not participate in future protests against the military regime.

Security forces in Myanmar have cracked down on anti-coup protesters, pointing guns toward civilians and attacking them with sticks. The military seeks to quell the large-scale demonstrations calling for the junta that seized power this month to reinstate the elected government.
More than 1000 protesters rallied in front of the Myanmar Economic Bank in Mandalay, the country's second-largest city, when at least 10 trucks full of soldiers and police arrived and immediately started firing slingshots toward the protesters, according to a photographer who witnessed the events.
