NEW YORK (CNS) -- "If you could read my mind, love/What a tale my thoughts could tell." So mused Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot in a hit song from a half-century ago.
The downside of such a situation bedevils the hero of the dull dystopian science fiction drama "Chaos Walking" (Lionsgate). He inhabits a world where men's thoughts -- though not women's -- take audible and sometimes visible form, and thus can only be concealed with great difficulty. While that proves troubling for him and those around him, the effect on the film's audience is nothing short of torturous.

Echoes. Vital Support for Mission Priests. Published 3/12/2021

We are blessed that many Catholics in the Archdiocese of Boston follow the time-honored custom of requesting a Mass to be celebrated for their loved ones, living or deceased, or for special intentions. We thank those who choose to have these Masses said in the missions and invite others to join their ranks in following this tradition.
When a Mass offering is made to The Propagation of the Faith, the stipend is sent to the missions, along with the name of the person or intention for whom the Mass is to be celebrated. Priests serving the Church in Africa, Asia and South America unite themselves and their congregations to you in the clearest sign of our Church's universality -- the Eucharist.

USCCB Administrative Committee's pastoral message marks year of pandemic

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- U.S. life has 'dramatically changed' due to the yearlong pandemic, and alongside it, racial injustices and political divisions have shaken the nation, yet there is 'comfort in God's promise,' the U.S. bishops' Administrative Committee said in a March 9 pastoral message.

Irish Pastoral Center promotes culture and community across generations

DORCHESTER -- From visiting the incarcerated to holding a preschool playgroup and assisting exchange students to organizing community events, the Irish Pastoral Center aims to serve the spiritual, social, and cultural needs of the local Irish community.
The Irish Pastoral Center (IPC), which calls itself "a parish without boundaries," is a collaboration between the Archdiocese of Boston and the Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference in Ireland. It was founded in 1987 out of St. Mark Parish in Dorchester in response to an influx of Irish immigrants to the Greater Boston Area. The IPC provides a wide variety of services and resources, assisting clients with accommodation, employment, counseling, immigration, spiritual support, and referrals for social work.

Boston Catholic Directory 2021 released

In a year when deadlines and production plans were, to say the least, a challenge to its staff, the archdiocese's "go-to resource" was shipped recently to subscribers: parishes, agencies, institutions, and individuals.
The cover photo of this year's Boston Catholic Directory, taken by Pilot Managing Editor Gregory L. Tracy, features the splendid renovation and restoration of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers. The parish, under the leadership of its current pastor, Father Michael Doyle, sponsored the cover, while his right-hand man, Msgr. Frederick Murphy, provided the condensed version of the history of the parish on page two. Thanks to both of them and to their parish.
