Hyper-reality and the Pulwama incident | Political Economy

The leaked WhatsApp chats of Arnab Goswami laid bare the sinister designs hatched by the Modi government
Hyper realism is characterised by depiction of real life in an unusual or striking manner. The rise of hyper realism coincided with the development of photography. It entered into wider currency when American photo-realists of the 1960s and ’70s sought to “immortalise photographic imagery by faithfully capturing their precision and detail in paintings and realistic drawings.” However, by the early 2000s, hyperrealists were using advancements in high-definition photography as a jumping-off point into expressions of false realities that continue to astonish and amaze art lovers all over the world.

Malik demands social media legislation
National
February 10, 2021
ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Interior Chairman Senator Abdul Rehman Malik urged for legislation on social media and to take strict legal action against those violating cyber laws of the country.
“While dealing with social media we should replicate the model of Saudi Arabia and UAE wherein all mediums of social media are in the control of government and even a single blasphemous word can’t be posted,” he said while talking to the newsmen after attending the meeting of the Senate Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication.
Rehman Malik said that even calls on WhatsApp and other social mediums are controlled in UEA and Saudi Arabia. He said that strict action should be taken against those who post and spread blasphemous, sectarian, offensive, and objectionable material. He expressed that no Muslim can bear blasphemous words about our beloved Prophet (PBUH). He said that government should talk to social media operators to open their offices in Pakistan that it could be made possible to remove such objectionable material immediately. While expressing his grave concerns over the misuse of social media in the country he said that thousands of fake social media accounts are running for different malicious purposes and spreading blasphemous and highly objectionable materials to create uncertainty and chaos among the public. He said that many are operating social media accounts with different names including the names of politicians are also used.

Arnab Goswami’s WhatsApp chats that were annexed by the Mumbai Police in the alleged TRP manipulation scam have shown that the Republic TV founder knew about the Balakot airstrike at least three days before the military conducted them.
The Wire‘s Arfa Khanum Sherwani interviewed former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, who said that the WhatsApp chats “prove” that the airstrikes were done to benefit a particular political party and not done to avenge the death of the CRPF members who were killed in the Pulwama terror attack.

NEW DELHI: Congress-led opposition is likely to turn the heat on the government over the Arnab Goswami WhatsApp chats issue in the coming budget session of Parliament by demanding a time-bound Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the alleged leak of military secrets.
While the budget sessions was always going to be a stormy affair with the joint opposition planning to corner the government over the farm laws and India’s coronavirus management strategy, Mumbai Police’s sensational revelations last week, pertaining to WhatsApp conversations between Arnab and former BARC chief Partho Dasgupta, have added a new flashpoint between the opposition and treasury benches.

It demands a joint parliamentary committee probe into Republic TV promoter Arnab Goswami's WhatsApp chats.
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Friday deferred a decision to elect a new party president until June, even as it adopted three resolutions, including one demanding a joint parliamentary committee probe into Republic TV promoter Arnab Goswami's WhatsApp chats.
The other two resolutions were about backing farmers’ organisations in the ‘decisive’ fight against the farm laws and expressing gratitude to scientists for developing COVID-19 vaccine in record time. The party appealed to citizens to come out and vaccinate themselves.

New Congress chief in June: CWC after spat | India News

Rahul Gandhi did not express his views on the timeframe, even though he agreed that it was time election was held. It was time that the issue was “finished, once and for all” and the party “moved on”, sources quoted him as saying.
Gehlot was the most aggressive in countering the demand for polls and is learnt to have singled out Anand Sharma for obstructing the plan to keep the poll in abeyance until June. "What right do those who were the biggest beneficiaries of power during the UPA era despite never being elected have to demand internal elections," a source quoted the Rajasthan CM as bluntly telling Sharma.

The major news headlines of the day, and more.
The government’s negotiations with protesting farm unions hit a roadblock as the farmer leaders stuck to their demands for a complete repeal of three farm laws, even as the Centre asked them to reconsider its proposal for putting the laws on hold for 12-18 months. Unlike the last 10 rounds of talks, the 11th round could not even reach a decision on the next date for the meeting as the government also hardened its position saying it is ready to meet again once the unions agree to discuss the suspension proposal.

Pakistan terms Pulwama a 'false flag op' after Arnab WhatsApp chats, Republic slams 'desperation'

In a statement issued later, Republic TV said it rejected the allegations made by the Pakistan government against Goswami. The Pakistan government’s statement, it said, was “proof of the deep-conspiracy of anti-India and anti-national forces” against Republic TV.
The Pulwama terror attack, in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed, was organised by the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed. In retaliation, India had undertaken airstrikes against the terror group’s camps in Pakistan’s Balakot.
The Pakistan Foreign Office was referring to purported WhatsApp conversations between Goswami and former Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) chief executive Partho Dasgupta, which have been recorded as part of the Mumbai Police’s charge sheet in the ‘TRP scam’ case.
