Social Security head Andrew Saul, a Donald Trump appointee, canceled a popular telework program in 2019, but was working from New York himself and at one point hadn t logged into his work Skype account for more than two months.
Social Security Administration Commissioner Andrew Saul upset many agency staff when he canceled a popular teleworking program in 2019.
“A time of workload crisis is not the time to experiment with working at home,” Saul said when he announced the policy, citing a need to reduce wait times for Social Security claimants. ....

Biden elevates DuBester to chair the FLRA -- FCW

By Natalie Alms

President Joe Biden has nominated Ernest DuBester to be the chairman of the Federal Labor Relations Authority, the agency that governs labor-management relations.
It is a great privilege and an honor to be chosen by President Biden to serve as chairman of the FLRA, DuBester said in a statement.
The chairmanship is effective immediately without Senate confirmation, said Aloysius Hogan, the director of the Office of Legislative Affairs and Program Planning at the FLRA.
Under the Trump administration, DuBester has been the only member of the three-member panel appointed by a Democrat, as unions have jockeyed with the panel over its decisions and the legality of the makeup of FLRA s Federal Services Impasses Panel. ....

Social Security Boss’ Job Status Unclear Following Inauguration
The White House named Commissioner Andrew Saul among its list of “acting” agency officials, despite the fact that he has five years remaining in his term.
The future of Andrew Saul as commissioner of the Social Security Administration was uncertain Thursday, after the Biden administration included his name on a list of “acting” agency officials and two key aides were replaced shortly after the new president’s inauguration.
Saul has been a controversial leader of the agency responsible for delivering checks to retired and disabled Americans because of his efforts to sideline federal employee unions and wrest control of disability hearings from the agency’s independent corps of administrative law judges. The Association of Administrative Law Judges last December issued a vote of no confidence in Saul and Deputy Commissioner David Black, with 88% of its members in favor of the decision. ....

You can rest assured that labor unions across the country are in a big hurry to see Donald Trump out of office and to have Joe Biden (or any other Democrat, really) put in his place. Perhaps nowhere is this more true than in the unions that represent government workers who are employed at the Social Security Administration. And yes, they have labor unions that are
that specific to a particular organizational level. One of these is the American Federation of Government Employees Council 220, which organizes workers at Social Security field offices Another is the Association of Administrative Law Judges, representing judges in courts that hear Social Security disability claims. As Government Executive reports this week, the leaders of those two government labor unions have sent a message to ....
