Israel’s Supreme Court overturned a highly contested law aimed at weakening the justices’ own power in a loss to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition.
The bill had stripped the Supreme Court of the power to declare government decisions unreasonable.
The Israel Democracy Institute issued the following statement on the High Court of Justice’s decision to strike down the amendment passed in July to the Basic Law: The Judiciary, eliminating the Court’s use of the Reasonableness Standard.
