Daisy and Justin's choice: Drug trial could see their child with form of dwarfism grow

Achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism, is a rare genetic disorder that impacts bone growth, affecting around 1 in 25,000 children worldwide. People with achondroplasia can face a lifetime of health complications, including spinal column narrowing, spinal cord compression, and bowed legs.
The drug vosoritide - when injected once a day in young children - could reverse the effects of dwarfism and allow children to grow to average height.
Daisy’s son Casper has achondroplasia and was faced with the decision to be part of the vosoritide drug trial, which could change his expected height.
An average two-year-old grows about six centimetres a year, while a child with achondroplasia grows about four centimetres a year. When bone growth stops in early adulthood, the result is a dramatic reduction in height and proportions.

Free consultant to analyze the challenges and offer solutions to those hit hard by COVID-19

MARBLEHEAD — Heather Dalton, owner of the boutique Seaside Allure, is relieved and hopeful after hearing that the town has won a Local Rapid Recovery Planning (LRRP) grant to help town businesses that have been hit hard by the pandemic.
“It’s been really quiet. Just getting people to come in the door is hard,” Dalton said. “People are hunkered down. And they’re shopping at big box stores online, putting the little businesses in a tough place.”

LETTERS TO THE MARBLEHEAD REPORTER EDITOR

Trump Update
Back in July of this year, I wrote a letter comparing 1000 Covid deaths a day to having 2/3 of a Titanic being sunk daily. Surely someone would fault the president for his abysmal response then. 50 million people thought it was a hoax.
However, now there are almost 2 Titanics going down every day. And he is making up stories about a rigged election. Is that like Nero fiddling while Rome burned? Still a hoax?

Read the budget not the vision
By 2040 we will have stopped burning oil in our homes, gasoline in our boats, and municipal waste in Revere. Electricity will come from “carbon free” sources like nuclear and wind. We'll have EVs but ideally travel by shoe leather and bicycle. “Carbon offsets” will cover the rest. That's according to the town's newly minted Sustainability vision, which landed in my inbox last week.
