The U.S. will ban entry to most non-U.S. citizens who have recently been in South Africa in response to the new Covid-19 strain there, a White House official said.
The U.K.’s health minister warned that coronavirus vaccines may be less effective against new variants of the disease. France may go into another lockdown within days to halt the spread of the potentially deadlier strain that emerged in Britain last year. Oslo tightened restrictions because of that variant’s spread, and Sweden banned travel from Norway.

(Bloomberg) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo said more vaccines are on the way for New York, though he said the bigger challenge is getting skeptical Black and Latino residents to take the shot. U.S. governors are stepping up complaints that the federal government is not giving them enough vaccine.
California reported a 30% drop in new Covid-19 cases compared with the state’s 14-day rolling average. Fatalities in the U.S. dropped below 4,000 for the first time in three days.
A doctors’ group in the U.K. has urged the government to review the 12 weeks allowed for people to receive a second dose of the vaccine produced by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE. The manufacturer suggests 21 days. Meanwhile, France’s top health authority recommends doubling that three-week gap as a way to stretch supplies and speed inoculations.

St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota saw another modest decline in its unemployment rate in November even though the state experienced a net loss of over 12,000 non-farm jobs.
Both statistics are on a seasonally adjusted basis. The jobless rate fell from 4.6-percent in October to 4.4-percent last month. The monthly jobs report from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development also indicates the net job loss in November erased all but 2600 of the jobs that were gained the previous month. It was the first net job loss reported since April when the economy was collapsing because of the pandemic shutdown.
