The Indian government plans to expand the mandatory quality standard certification to include 1,500-2,000 products in the next 2-3 years, according to Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal. Currently, over 500 products are covered by mandatory certification, compared to just 106 products prior to 2014. Goyal highlighted the importance of setting and maintaining quality standards, stating that they are crucial for sustainable development. The theme of this year's World Standards Day, celebrated on October 14, is "A shared vision for a better world" with a focus on standards for sustainable development goals (SDGs).
