Instagram Is Protecting Joe Biden Using Fake Fact-Checking, Journalist Says

In a Thursday piece on
Substack, journalist Glenn Greenwald claimed that Instagram is using its fact-checking to shield President-elect Joe Biden from criticism.
The Intercept co-founder pointed in particular to comments about the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, which was first written by Biden before it was passed by Bill Clinton.
With Joe Biden about to enter the White House one that will exercise significant influence in determining Silicon Valley s interests, will be filled with tech executives, and was made possible in large part by Silicon Valley s largesse poured into the Biden/Harris campaign Instagram has arrogated unto itself the power to declare these well-established criticisms of Biden and his crime bill to be False and having no basis in fact. Greenwald highlighted a post from Biden critic Brad Troemel, which included a photo of Biden and Clinton after the former president signed the controversial legislation into law and ....

'An absolute joke': Glenn Greenwald calls out Instagram for using 'fact-checking' to protect Joe Biden

Posted at 8:12 pm on December 17, 2020 by Brett T.
As Twitchy just reported, USA Today has again run a “fact-check” on a piece from satire site The Babylon Bee. And as we noted in that post, USA Today discloses that its fact-checking is supported in part by a grant from Facebook.
Facebook owns Instagram.
And there’s a post on Instagram about Joe Biden and his 1994 crime bill that we can’t see because it’s been fact-checked by … USA Today. USA Today claims that whatever was written in that Instagram post we’re not allowed to see is false: “Independent fact-checkers say this information has no basis in fact.” But how is USA Today an independent fact-checker when Facebook is paying for its fact-checking? ....

The Incestuous Big Tech-Media Relationship Is Further Exposed as Instagram Wrongly Censors Anti-Biden Post

(AP Photo/Richard Drew)
As I reported yesterday, Facebook and Twitter all but admitted in announcements made Wednesday that they deliberately manipulated how their platforms work and display news articles in a way they felt would help Democrats prior to the election and immediately afterward.
For those of you who missed them, here’s what happened: Facebook changed its algorithm shortly after Election Day to favor links to traditional old-media (liberally biased) “news” outlets like the New York Times, Washington Post, etc. They are now rolling back the change:
Bit of news: Facebook has rolled back a post-election change it made to its news feed algorithm to boost authoritative news and tamp down misinformation, despite some employees asking if the nicer news feed could stay. https://t.co/PTxRESJkP1 ....

How TikTok ruled culture in 2020 and ushered in a new creative class

17December 2020
Some years give you nothing, fly by maybe a little too smoothly. In a century’s time who will remember 2019? Absolutely no one. 2020, however, will live in infamy. The story of the year was coronavirus. White knuckling through the quar we rediscovered social media as a connector, not a promoter. YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter boomed. We tried out some new things with Zoom, with Houseparty, with Clubhouse. People declared Instagram dead after Zuckerberg replaced the notifications button with a shopping bag. People declared Twitter dead when they rolled out…fleets? And everyone rushed to try TikTok when Donald Trump woke up sweaty and cranky one night and tweeted out that he was going to ban it. Of all the apps TikTok was the clear winner. ....

Instagram Censors Post Linking Joe Biden to Mass Incarceration

Instagram Censors Post Linking Joe Biden to Mass Incarceration
17 Dec 2020
Facebook-owned social media platform Instagram recently censored a post linking Joe Biden to his 1994 crime bill which contributed to the mass incarceration of black people. The platform relied on independent “fact checker”
USA Today to label connections between Biden and mass incarceration as “false.”
The
New York Postreports that the Facebook-owned photo-sharing platform Instagram recently labeled a post by a user claiming that President-elect Joe Biden’s 1994 crime bill contributed to the mass jailing of black people as “false.” The claim that Biden’s 1994 crime law contributed to the mass incarceration of black people has been vehemently supported by criminal justice reform advocates on both the right and left. ....
