प्रत्येक देशातील एका उमेदवाराची ओहायो स्टेट युनिव्हर्सिटीमध्ये तत्वज्ञानात पीएच. डी. करण्यासाठी निवड होते. त्यानुसार प्रणव याला प्रवेशपूर्व विविध चाचण्यांचे निकष पूर्ण केल्यानंतर प्रवेश मिळाला. सोलापूरचे आजोबा धुंडिराज ताम्हणकर हे अलाहाबाद विद्यापीठातील विख्यात तत्वज्ञांनी गुरूदेव रानडे स्नेही होते. त्यामुळे गुरूदेवांच्या साहित्याचा कुटुंबावर प्रभाव आहे. त्याच्या अभ्यासातून वाचन, लेखन आणि चिंतनाची बैठक पक्की झाली असे मत प्रणव याने व्यक्त केले. रामायण, महाभारत आणि उपनिषिद या ग्रंथा साहित्याचे आणि संत तुकाराम, संत ज्ञानेश्वर आणि संत मुक्ताबाई आदी संतांचे तत्वज्ञान प्रमाण मानले गेले आहे. त्याचा पाश्चिमात्य संशोधक शेकडो वर्षांपासून वाचन, लेखन आणि चिंतन करीत आले आहे. सर्वांची मांडणी वेगळी असली समाजातील मानवाचे कल्याण हे सूत्र समान आहे. या विषयामुळे देश, सीमा, पंथ, रंग किंवा लिंग कसा कसलाच भेद नसतो. केवळ मानव कल्याणाचे बीज हेच सर्व विविध देशातील तत्वज्ञानाचे सूत्र आहे, प्रणवने सांगितले.
