Italy has formally withdrawn from China s Belt and Road infrastructure initiative, becoming the first G7 nation to do so. The decision, communicated to Beijing three days ago, was confirmed by an Italian government source. The move comes over four years after Italy joined the initiative in 2019. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who took office last year, had criticized the decision to join, calling it a "serious mistake."
