'Hell's Kitchen' review: Alicia Keys' musical fires up on Broadway

The Alicia Keys musical “Hell’s Kitchen,” which opened Saturday night on Broadway following a rocky run last fall at the Public Theater, has greatly improved now that it’s only blocks away from its title neighborhood. The springtime spring in its step comes, in part, because at home in a much bigger theater — the Shubert — the vocal powerhouses of the cast can really let it rip.

disagree with you, and to have those conversations. that's really interesting. and in terms of saying good-bye to it, it's bittersweet. it's nice that it moved on to this very heightened form and we shot it on broadway, so it's the nicest version of the show. but also, i made it with the guy directed it, adam, directed the live shot. he was my closest pal, and we work together for eleven years and he passed away right before he started on broadway. so it's weird, because i love the show. it's the best thing i've ever been a part of. i love performing it on broadway, but saying good-bye to the show is also me sort of saying good-bye to our partnership. it's very bittersweet, is the one word answer i should have given. >> you are correct. it should be given. to the people who put you on the list of time magazine, how many of them knew that you used to work out everything you're

'Stereophonic' review: Broadway play goes behind the music

Although “Stereophonic” is not a musical, it’s easy to get swept up by the terrific original rock songs that drive it. And as writer David Adjmi’s play, which opened Friday night at the John Golden Theatre, is set during the mid 1970s, Will Butler’s music sounds authentically of that robustly creative era. Almost eerily so.

'Suffs' review: A moving musical march that's not quite there yet

The suffragist characters of the musical “Suffs,” which opened Thursday night at the Music Box Theatre, rarely pause to celebrate their victories.  As soon as they’ve achieved something monumental, such as securing a meeting with President Woodrow Wilson or getting the right to vote, another lofty goal appears on the horizon. Or there’s a dispiriting setback. They’re never done. Much the same could be said about the show, itself, written by and starring Shaina Taub. Even after a 2021 run at the Public Theater, which garnered less-than-enthusiastic reviews, and a later workshop to reshape it, “Suffs” still feels frustratingly unfinished.

jonas, you were on campus yesterday during the protest and describe what you saw. >> it was absolutely surreal, let me tell you. the president was scheduled to testify at 10:00 a.m. these pro-palestinian sometimes pro-hamas supporters came out 4:00 a.m. to set up tents on the south lawn care they called it a cause of solidarity encampment. so once the day started going, they started having these mass protests, marching around the lawns, chanting what many would consider to be anti-semitic chance. such as the river to the sea. we don't want to costates. we want all of it. things like that pure jewish counterprotesters but a tense scene and the gates are usually open but anybody could walk in but you had to show your i.d. and scan it here they are being strict today. as well on broadway, there were people coming in from nyu and other places on the people not even students coming into protest here that is where some

this because clearly some of these protesters are steadfast in their demands and wanting to see university divest and sever ties with israel, but i am not sure whether this protest helped them achieve that be all end all goal. >> cb this is gillian, looking at these life pictures of students being detained, being taken in these police buses. i think it's more flagging that the anti-israel/anti-jewish protesters are not just impacting the lives of students at columbia university now. the impact is broadening. you can see now major arteries and thorough fairs in new york city are being shut down in order to accommodate these protesters. i saw you yourself standing at looks like on the west side of broadway on 116th street. broadway midday in manhattan is one of the busiest major thoroughfares, four lane roads
