Covid 2/18: Vaccines Still Work

LESSWRONG This week the CDC released new guidelines for schools. I’ve spun my analysis of that off into its own post. Scott Alexander also shared some good thoughts on Covid-19 in two new posts, and I discuss both of those, and how our models and predictions differ. Also, as some combination of retaliation and its continued crusade against the evils of the tech industry and the notion of freedom of speech, the New York Times finally published its hit piece on Scott Alexander. I devote a brief section to it, the upside of which is that the paper is now permanently banned from this space.

Open Borders for Inclusive Prosperity - The Aspen Institute

Open Borders for Inclusive Prosperity I believe that, in a globalized world, it is natural and desirable for all resources to flow freely. This includes capital, goods, technology, and people. Genuine liberal minds do not question this principle. Nevertheless, voices abound in the United States that seek to blame the economic crisis on immigrants, especially Latinos. Lee N. Field

Lee N. Field "Lee N. Field" is an obvious pseudonym. It comes from the Lee-Enfield rifle, which in various versions was the British Empire's battle rifle from the 1890s through to the 1950s. Hot stuff, in its place and time. I own two: a FazerkleyNo. 4 Mk II which from its serial number was an Irish Constabulary rifle, and an Ishapore 2A (in 7.62x51!). Neither get shot enough, as I'm mostly a handgun shooter. Cheap surplus .303 British has essentially dried up, which is not surprising since the only rifle that shoots it was last made 50 years ago.
