Ventilation fans inside that tunnel to begin activating. Of course, it was rapidly filling with smoke. The ntsb says there was also severe arcing damage. And we also know that many of those passengers were on that train for about an hour. So it appears now from this report that the ntsb essentially knew what the trouble began but they dont know why. Theyre looking to a number of things. Was there damage somehow to that third rail . Was there a surge in electricity . Did something hit that rail . Right now, they dont know. Typically, the ntsb investigation can take quite a lodge time. They say theyre going through all the maintenance records and training records. The superintendent saying they feared the issues with the buses would leave some students waiting at stops for an extended period of time and they thought that would be dangerous to the students. Well absolutely. These lawsuits are soon to start piling up. Today, we learned that the first lawsuit will officially be filed tomorrow. And then just a minutes ago, abc 7 learned that six more of those passengers have already signed on with that same law firm with the man who is filing tomorrow. Now, speaking of that man he said today that he thought that he was going to die on that train when it started filling with smoke. As you can imagine, these are tough conditions for a firefighter to be fighting a fire on. They threw a lot of water on this. Water as it hit the ground almost instantly froze. Well, alison its only been three days since that train filled with smoke and had to be evacuated and already tomorrow the very first lawsuit will officially be filed. Now, the man filing that lawsuit, his name is malbert rich, a 53yearold new yorker who according to his lawyer was just released from the Georgetown University hospital. He says he is suing to make metro safer. Now, he said hed also like some compensation though he wouldnt say how much and wouldnt discuss his injuries. But what he would discuss is that he believed that he was going to die when that train filled with smoke. He even sent a goodbye text to his mother and two of his children.
