Here's Where You Get A COVID-19 Vaccine This Memorial Day Weekend

Vaccine providers in Austin are offering walk-in and drive-thru COVID-19 vaccination opportunities this weekend.
Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for people 12 and up. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are approved for people 18 and up.
Here’s where to go — and how to get a free ride.
Travis County Expo Center
People 12 and up can get a first dose of the Pfizer vaccine at the Travis County Expo Center at 7311 Decker Lane, Austin, this Saturday. The clinic is closed Friday and Sunday for the holiday weekend. This drive-thru vaccine clinic, which is hosted by the Central Texas Counties Vaccine Collaborative, runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Grants will go toward COVID vaccine equity in Central Texas

United Way for Greater Austin, St. David's Foundation and Austin Community Foundation have awarded $415,000 in grants to 19 local organizations to increase coronavirus vaccination rates among underserved and rural populations in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties.
Many of the grants were given to minority-based organizations that are reaching communities of color.
The $500,000 fund was created by monies pooled by Austin Community Foundation and St. David's Foundation and is managed by United Way for Greater Austin. In addition to the grant money, the fund will provide $100,000 in staffing and resources to the grantees to help them create shared best practices and eventually a playbook for this type of work.

Within the Austin-Travis County Emergency Operations Center, the following task forces guide and implement community engagement activities that address disparities to ensure that disparities are not inadvertently created or exacerbated.
Task Forces
Asian/Pacific Islander Task Force
This task force holds a bi-weekly Facebook Live, MyAPI Live, in multiple languages including Burmese, Vietnamese, and Mandarin. They have also been active in promoting the national StopAAPIhate initiative, which developed an incident report for instances of Asian American and Pacific Islander harassment.
Black/African Diaspora Task Force
This task force continues to provide and improve access to COVID-19 service delivery, social support, education, and outreach. They recently completed an 8 week series titled “The Village Speaks," in partnership with Saffron Trust on Instagram Live, and are now working to set-up events with Black barbers and stylists in the Black Diaspora community to improve their overall health and wellness.

Michele Rountree had reservations about getting the COVID-19 vaccine at first.
But the more research she did, the better she began to feel. And when she heard the African American Youth Harvest Foundation was hosting a walk-in vaccine clinic, something clicked. She had known about the organization since she moved to Austin more than a decade ago, so she was convinced she should go ahead.
“It was that extension of respect and trust that opened up my motivation to show up,” said Rountree, a social work professor at UT Austin.
