Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are among 12 European teams who have signed up in theory to a breakaway "Super League".
The deal would mark the greatest revolution in European football since the 1950s, and could kill the lucrative Champions League, which was on Monday due to announce plans to increase in size. With battle lines now drawn for a sport in civil war,

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur.
As revealed by the Telegraph, the Portuguese has parted company with the club after arriving in 2019, taking over from Mauricio Pochettino.
On the day after the European Super League was announced, Mourinho has been dismissed from his role in north London due to a downturn in results.
Mourinho's tenure at Spurs is his first without a trophy during his managerial career. What could that mean for his future in the game?
Spurs confirmed the news on Monday morning, with Daniel Levy releasing a statement, saying: "Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.

Chelsea advanced to the FA Cup final after a 1-0 victory against Manchester City in the semis.
April 18, 2021 07:41 BST
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was faced with some tough decisions to make after his club advanced to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals following a victory against Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals.
With the club also still in contention for three other trophies, he had to figure out how to keep his squad fresh and competitive. However, it appears that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel outsmarted him on Saturday, after Chelsea managed to beat a much-changed City squad.
Guardiola made eight changes to the team that he fielded against Dortmund, and they were unable to find their rhythm on the pitch against Chelsea. Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards told BBC that he thinks "City had no spark. Because of the Champions League, they looked a bit leggy. I have to give credit to Chelsea. They made them only have little chances."

Abraham, who has bagged 12 goals and 6 assists in 30 appearances across all competitions this campaign, has struggled for minutes since Thomas Tuchel's appointment as manager in January.
According to recent reports, the striker has been left 'confused' by his situation under Tuchel with him not being considered in favour despite his impressive numbers so far this season.
Though he has shrugged off a knee injury, Abraham has been an unused substitute in each of Chelsea's last five games, adding to the recurring question marks over his future at the club past the summer.
He said: "Tammy [Abraham] has had a rough time. He started twice or three times and substituted for tactical reasons at half-time. He's not had the impact we wish and demand from him. He then got injured, lost the connection and possibility to play for his place the squad."

Chelsea booked their place in the FA Cup final with a narrow 1-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday evening at Wembley.
After a cagey first-half, which was dominated by the Blues, Hakim Ziyech opened proceedings after tapping in from Timo Werner's squared ball as the west Londoners took a much-deserved lead against Pep Guardiola's tired and sub-par side.
Thomas Tuchel's side defended with intent throughout the game and they were rightfully rewarded with an FA Cup final spot after a brilliant all-round display against the Premier League leaders.

He has had his critics this season after a difficult season in England following his switch from Ajax last summer. Ziyech has acknowledged his struggles in the Premier League and knows he isn't at his best yet, but is well on his way to re-finding his old form.

The 28-year-old has taken his time to find his feet back in Spain but has since proven why he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He proved to be a vital part in why Real progressed into the Champions League semi-finals against Chelsea.

Tuchel inherited a squad back in January that was low in confidence and has turned them into a side who are hard to beat which has seen them go unbeaten in his first 14 games in charge.
Chelsea are flying and speculation of their transfer plans this summer have already started being reported, including Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland - Tuchel refused to be drawn on such links.
