Napa County adopts zone-based mapping to notify public of wildfires, evacuation orders

Napa County authorities have a short and succinct motto for those who need to know whether to evacuate or keep watch during future emergencies: Know Your Zone.
An evacuation mapping system rolled out by the Sheriff’s Office divides the county into more than 250 numbered zones that can be targeted for alerts about wildfires and other threats to life or property.
Operated by the San Francisco software company Zonehaven and previously adopted by Sonoma, Marin, and other California counties, the zone-based alert system is intended to more rapidly and precisely target public safety announcements during disasters, and reduce confusion about which areas are under the most immediate threat.

Napa prepares city water use curbs in pursuit of 15% consumption cut after dry California winter

Irrigation curbs, car washing restrictions and the shutoff of fountains may return in the city of Napa amid shrinking water supplies on the tail of a dry California winter.
Tuesday night, the City Council is scheduled to vote on a “moderate water shortage” declaration intended to cut consumption by 15%. Approval would mark the return of water-use restrictions last rolled out in the mid-2010s when a six-year drought led California to mandate across-the-board cutbacks statewide.
Napa s actions would follow mandatory cutbacks imposed Upvalley by the cities of St. Helena and Calistoga.

Congress
Jared Huffman.
North Coast Rep. Jared Huffman joined a majority of his colleagues today in passing the American Rescue Plan Act, a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 stimulus package, sending the landmark legislation on to President Joe Biden s desk.
According to a press release from Huffman s office, the package if signed into law, as is expected will deliver more than $82 million in relief to his Second District, including $26.29 million to Humboldt County cities.
“This is a historic week for our country, Huffman said in the release. Californians have been struggling for over a year in the face of this once in a century pandemic and economic collapse. Finally after months of Republican obstruction and political gameplay we have passed relief that actually meets the urgency of this moment and is on its way to be signed into law. The American Rescue Plan is what we need to beat COVID, safely reopen schools, deliver relief, and ensure an equitable recovery for everyone. The vast majority of people in America support the president’s plan, and today House Democrats honored our promise to deliver relief for the people.”
