El pont nou de Sant Joan de les Abadesses ha complert cent anys d’història i l’Ajuntament ho recorda i commemora a la revista municipal
SJA. Es tracta del pont de grans dimensions de la travessera urbana de l’eix pirinenc sobre el riu Ter, que rep el nom en contrast amb l’altre pont, el del segle XII, a pocs metres.
La construcció d’aquesta infraestructura, ara centenària, va ser fonamental al principi del segle XX. A part d’ésser en un eix important de comunicació pirinenc i el vertebrador de tota la mobilitat ripollesa, va coincidir amb l’esclat industrial a l’entorn del tèxtil i l’arribada del ferrocarril, l’any 1880. Cal tenir en compte que l’estació era a l’altra banda del nucli urbà i, per tant, del riu Ter.
