Greenwood awarding federal grants

The city of Greenwood is distributing more than $1 million in Community Development Block Grant Program funding to local projects and organizations. The city began participating in the program in 2019 and Mayor Mark Myers has directed that the funding be combined with more than $500,000 the city received as part of the CARES Act. ....

Gadsden City Council approves lawyers in rendering plant case

The Gadsden City Council on Tuesday agreed to be represented by Ford, Howard and Cornett, P.C., in legal action regarding the proposed Pilgrim s Pride rendering plant in Etowah County.
The resolution was approved by a 4-2 margin with council members Kent Back, Ben Reed, Cynthia Toles and Deverick Williams voting yes, and Jason Wilson and Thomas Worthy voting no. Council member Johnny Cannon was not present.
“It’s hard for me . I don’t really support this project in its current state, “ Wilson said of the rendering plant following his vote, “so it just wasn’t feasible for me to support using city funds to help continue into this fight.” ....

2021 Consolidated Funding Application Process Now Open, Beginning the 11
th Round of Regional Economic Development Council Initiative
On May 10, 2021, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the 11
th round of the Regional Economic Development Councils (REDC) initiative with the opening of the Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) process. All ten of New York State’s regions, as represented by ten Regional Councils, will compete for a share of up to $150 million in Empire State Development (ESD) capital grants and $75 million in Excelsior Tax Credits. The deadline for applications is Friday, July 30, at 4 p.m., and all CFA grants are subject to the 30 percent minority-and-women-owned business enterprises contract goals. ....

ST. CLAIR SHORES Organizations that help local seniors, children, the homeless and more will benefit from money allocated to different public service organizations through the Community Development Block Grant program administered by St. Clair Shores.
Fulfilling requests from nine different public service organizations, along with paying for eligible operations at the St. Clair Shores Senior Activity Center, repavement and repair of eligible streets and repayment of the loan to renovate and expand the senior center, City Council members voted to approve the 2021 annual action plan and budget for the Community Development Block Grant Program at its April 19 meeting. ....

WALTHAM, MA – The city of Waltham is offering rental assistance to residents in need of support due to hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The assistance will be administered by the City of Waltham Housing Division with funding by the Community Development Block Grant Program through the CARES Act.
Applications will be accepted on a first come first served basis as long as funds are available. Those who received funds previously may not be eligible.
