The Carlsbad City Council met Tuesday for a hearing on the 2021-22 funding plan and distribution of the notice of funding availability for the Community Development Block Grant Program, which was approved. The council discussed the Veterans Memorial Park Master Plan Report, approved the concept and directed staff to proceed with the necessary environmental permits and plans. The park is near Faraday Avenue and Cannon Road. The council also heard a report on actions and expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff was asked to bring back an item on the enforcement of encampment clearings.

Four Central Mass. cities secure $10M in housing aid

Four Central Massachusetts cities have secured nearly $9.8 million in federal housing aid, including for programs providing affordable housing and community development.
Fitchburg, Framingham, Leominster and Worcester all secured funding, with Worcester alone taking in $7.3 million. Most of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funding announced Thursday for those four cities and others nationally was for Community Development Block Grant Program funding, which benefits low- and moderate-income households in need of affordable housing.
Smaller amounts were given for the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, which covers building or renovating affordable housing, and Emergency Solutions Grants, which provides funds for homeless shelters. ....

Virtual meeting to look at town s needs
The city of Helena and Lewis and Clark County will have a virtual Community Needs Assessment public hearing at 5:30 p.m. on March 4, to review public assets and to assess challenges in making Helena a better place to live.
The hearing will address housing, economic development, neighborhood revitalization and community and public facilities. Come prepared to discuss current or anticipated projects that pertain to these areas, particularly those targeting low- and moderate-income residents.
There will also be a discussion on prospective funding sources: the Community Development Block Grant Program, the Home Investment Partnership Program and the Treasure State Endowment Program. ....

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Awards $392 Million in Grants to Texas Communities for Affordable Housing

These core programs provide our local partners the funding they need to provide homes and vital services to some of our neighbors in need, Acting Secretary Matt Ammon said.
The Texas grants will be provided through four HUD programs: the Community Development Block Grant Program, the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS, and the Emergency Solutions Grants.
The Community Development Block Grant Program was given $246 million in funding from HUD. The program provides annual grants on a formula basis to states, cities, and counties to develop urban communities by providing housing and a suitable living environment, the Department said. ....
