Representative sean caston from illinois. good morning to you and thanks for being with us. good morning, lindsay. how are you feeling, now that it s here and are you staying as far away as you can? you know, so congress isn t in session so i m back in illinois. i think we re all hopeful this will not be as big a deal as it was before because people are prepared, because the president of the united states is not actively egging people on and encouraging, but at the same time we re all i think we re all at some level deeply angry that it s partisan to defend our democracy because until we get past that, it s real hard to work through the causes and make sure that everybody heals. i mean, just like you said, this has been, this issue has become politicized. are you surprised that we haven t heard a ton from your republican colleagues and do we have a responsibility to speak up against this? ....
About the middle class tax cut. first of all, that s impossible because congress isn t in session. it s most likely not possible after because neither the president, nor a single republican, has shown a plan to pay for said tax cut. on friday, suddenly floated out, oh, there s negotiations on a trade deal. we knew this was a fabrication. while the president could run on these strong economic numbers, he s out there pushing lies. i think it s whatever he wants it. he believes he can get these things done. perhaps it s down the road or in a couple of months. i have no idea. i do know this. you know as well. i know you ve broken stories from this administration. there are people who have very different opinions and maybe very different things that they thought they heard. i mean, maybe you can get a story here. so i think the leakers might have different takes on different things. i think going back to the economy, we ve got to realize, the economy is very good, but to ....
Doing here saying we should not allow birthright citizenship because he wants to rile up his base and the democrats want to let all these people in. you know, this is his m.o. we ve watched it for years now. in a way we shouldn t be surprised by it, except he can t do any of it. he can t do this hang on. if you flip the script, wouldn t this be the same thing as if you had a democratic president who wanted to sign an executive order to change the second amendment on guns. you can t do that. that s exactly right, brooke. and it s even worse. i think he knows he can t do that. this is one of those things where whether it s building the wall at the expense of mexico or passing a big tax cut when congress isn t in session, he just says these things because he knows he s going to get a reaction. what i think is so troubling is not just the complete lack of precedent for this, it s also the fact that the timing ....
