Republican Adam Kinzinger Slams 'Cancel Culture of the Right,' Defends Cheney

Republican Adam Kinzinger Slams 'Cancel Culture of the Right,' Defends Cheney
On 4/22/21 at 10:50 AM EDT
Representative Adam Kinzinger, an Illinois Republican, again voiced his support for Representative Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican, and called out the "cancel culture of the right," as pro-Trump Republicans continue to oppose Cheney due to her own opposition to the former president.
Cheney and Kinzinger were among the 10 House Republicans who voted with Democrats in January to impeach former President Donald Trump for helping to incite the insurrection against the U.S. Capitol on January 6 in an effort to overturn President Joe Biden's election victory. Pro-Trump Republicans and the former president have slammed Cheney, the chair of the House Republican Conference, and called for GOP voters to back challengers to her in Wyoming's 2022 Republican primary.

As they prepare to face primary challengers, the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach then-President Donald Trump after his supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 raised significantly more money during the first quarter of 2021 than they did two years earlier.
The group, leveraging the power of incumbency, also swamped their GOP primary opponents in almost every instance during the first round of fundraising since angering Mr. Trump with their votes, new Federal Election Commission filings show.

Trump Endorses Wyoming GOP Chairman Frank Eathorne

Trump Endorses Wyoming GOP Chairman Frank Eathorne
Backs his stance on Liz Cheney
Former President Donald Trump on Thursday endorsed Wyoming GOP chairman Frank Eathorne’s reelection efforts, specifically mentioning the chairman’s censure of Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) in the statement.
“Perhaps, most importantly, Frank has censured the incompetent Liz Cheney, who couldn’t care less about our brave soldiers overseas, and who is willing to fight ridiculous, endless wars instead of preparing for the big time enemies that may someday soon face our Country,” Trump wrote in a statement.
Cheney’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.

Trump rails against Lisa Murkowski and 'Crazy Liz Cheney' in latest tweemail

Print this article
Former President Donald Trump lambasted Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, two senior Republicans who voted in favor of impeaching or convicting him following the Jan. 6 riot.
Trump said it was "great news for the Republican Party" that Murkowski has considered not seeking reelection and that challengers have emerged for Cheney's seat in Congress. He further added that he will be making "an endorsement soon."
"Great news for the Republican Party!" the former president wrote in a tweemail. "Senator Lisa Murkowski said she is 'still weighing whether she will run again' for the Senate in Alaska. In other words, there is a chance that she won’t run! Wouldn’t that be great? And so many people are looking to run against Crazy Liz Cheney—but we only want one. She is so far down in Wyoming polls that the only way she can win is numerous candidates running against her and splitting the vote. Hopefully, that won’t happen. I’ll make an Endorsement soon!"

Cheney was one of six Republicans who voted to impeach the former president after the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
"We’re the party of Abraham Lincoln," Cheney told Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace. "We’re the party of Ronald Reagan. We have to really take a hard look at who we are and what we stand for and what we believe in. I think when you look at both his actions leading up to what happened on Jan. 6, the fact that he was impeached in a bipartisan fashion, the fact that he lost the presidency, the fact that we lost the Senate, we have to be in a position where we can say we stand for principle."

“I think for us as a party, we’ve got to be the party of hope and aspiration, and we cannot embrace insurrection, we can’t minimize what happened on January 6th, and I think that all of us regardless of partisanship, have an obligation and a duty to the Constitution," she said. When asked whether she would support Trump if he were the 2024 nominee, Cheney said bluntly and without pause: “I would not."
