Frontiers | Crystal structures of glycoprotein D of equine alphaherpesviruses reveal potential binding sites to the entry receptor MHC-I - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | Crystal structures of glycoprotein D of equine alphaherpesviruses reveal potential binding sites to the entry receptor MHC-I

Cell entry of most alphaherpesviruses is mediated by the binding of glycoprotein D (gD) to different cell surface receptors. Equine herpesvirus type 1 (EHV-1) and EHV-4 gDs interact with equine major histocompatibility complex I (MHC-I) to initiate entry into equine cells. We have characterized the gD-MHC-I interaction by solving the crystal structures of EHV-1 and EHV-4 gDs (gD1, gD4), performing protein-protein docking simulations, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analysis, and biological assays. The structures of gD1 and gD4 revealed the existence of a common V-set immunoglobulin-like (IgV-l...

Frontiers | Mode of presentation and performance of serology assays for diagnosing celiac disease: A single-center study in the United Arab Emirates

Objective To characterize patients with celiac disease (CD), examines the clinical spectrum of CD, and evaluate the performance of serologic tests used for CD screening, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Method Medical charts of patients received at the Digestive Diseases Institute of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi from January 2015 to December 2020 were reviewed. Patients who were screened for four serologic biomarkers (anti-tissue transglutaminase IgA [Anti-tTG-IgA], anti-tissue transglutaminase IgG [Anti-TtG-IgG], anti-deamidated gliadin peptide IgG [Anti-DGP-IgG], and anti-deamidated gliadin ...

Frontiers | A Prospective Stroke Register in Sierra Leone: Demographics, Stroke Type, Stroke Care and Hospital Outcomes - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | A Prospective Stroke Register in Sierra Leone: Demographics, Stroke Type, Stroke Care and Hospital Outcomes

Introduction Stroke is the second most common cause of adult death in Africa. We report the characteristics of stroke in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Methods A prospective observational register recorded all patients 18 years and over with stroke between May 2019 and April 2020. Stroke was defined according to the WHO criteria. Pearson’s chi squared test was used to examine associations between categorical variables and unpaired t-tests for continuous variables. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to explain in-hospital death, we report odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals. R...

Frontiers | Two major chromosome evolution events with unrivaled conserved gene content in pomegranate - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | Two major chromosome evolution events with unrivaled conserved gene content in pomegranate

Pomegranate has a unique evolutionary history given that different cultivars have eight or nine bivalent chromosomes with possible crossability between the two classes. Therefore, it is important to study the chromosome evolution in pomegranate to understand the dynamics of its population. Here, we de-novo assembled the Azerbaijanian cultivar “Azerbaijan guloyshasi“ (AG2017; 2n=16) and re-sequenced six cultivars to track the evolution of pomegranate, and to compare it with previously published de-novo assembled and re-sequenced cultivars. High synteny was observed between AG2017, Bhagawa (...
