Colorado will send an eighth congressperson to the U.S. House of Representatives for the next decade, the U.S. Census Bureau announced Monday, as a result of the state's population boom over the past ten years. The announcement comes as the census bureau continues to finalize the agency's decennial census data, where every U.S. household is counted, so political representation among the 50 states can be apportioned equally for the next decade. Colorado will gain a seat in congress, while other states that either did not grow faster than the U.S. as a whole, or lost population will lose seats....

A little after lunchtime on Jan. 14, Brad Herrick was heading out the door to walk his dog, Ruby, when he thought he saw a dog running loose. About 20 yards away, it was trotting down the sidewalk on East Dayton Street past Lapham Elementary School. the battle of the expressway. many people see it as an event, but it lasted from 1969 until the opening of harbor place in 1980. it started with tom ward and jack and a woman named lucretia who worked with the federal fells point historical society to show that those homes were important. on the west side, a group was fighting to save a neighborhood called rosemont, the first black home ownership neighborhood in baltimore. kimhe wanted to save downtown. jobs were leaving, people were leaving after the 1968 riots. and also, what was going on, whether it was the east side or west side....
