Budget talks are heating up in Albany, as lawmakers have until the end of the week to finalize and vote on a fiscal year 2023 spending plan.

It's been one week since the Senate and Assembly unveiled their one-house budget proposals.

Albany is eyeing a major overhaul of the cap, which currently limits most state Medicaid spending growth at about 3 percent, or $580 million each fiscal year.

Mayor Eric Adams announced Friday that the city will no longer require certain businesses to check for proof of vaccination, and that masks will not be mandated in most schools.
