Während Simon Gauzy, Kanak Jha und Can Akkuzu vom Tischtennis-Bundesligisten TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen bei den Olympischen Spielen in Tokio am Start sind, haben Samuel Kulczycki und Maciej Kubik bei den 63. Jugendeuropameisterschaften im kroatischen Varaždin im U19-Bereich für Furore gesorgt. Das TTF-Duo sicherte dem polnischen Nationalteam die Goldmedaille im Mannschaftswettbewerb und stand später auch im Doppel ganz oben auf dem Treppchen.
Das Finale im Teamwettbewerb gegen Frankreich war laut TTF-Mitteilung keine einfache Übung für die beiden Ochsenhauser. Am Ende hieß es 3:2 für Polen und Kubik behielt im alles entscheidenden Einzel gegen Thibault Poret in fünf Sätzen die Oberhand, gleichbedeutend mit Gold. Zuvor hatte bereits Kulczycki Poret besiegt, während beide Frankreichs Topspieler Alexis Lebrun hatten gratulieren müssen. Zuvor waren Schweden, Kroatien, Norwegen, Deutschland und Rumänien allesamt mit jeweils 3:0 in die Schranken gewiesen worden.

Another undeniably impressive performance from the Romanian contingent present at the Pavilhão dos Desportos de Vila Real, has resulted in two further titles as Darius Movileanu and Iulian Chirita emerged victorious on the third day of play at WTT Youth Contender Vila Real.

A young man who wasn’t in the mood for sharing the spotlight in the Under-19 Boys’ Singles tournament, Movileanu, ranked 51st in the ITTF Table Tennis Youth Ranking, toppled some of the biggest names on duty in the Portuguese city.
