3 Jun 2021 Multi-media consultant/s or firm or CSO to capture community perspectives on environmental pressures and human mobility in Vanuatu Duty Station: Port Vila, Vanuatu Type of Appointment: Individual/Team of Consultant(s) or Civil Society Organisation Estimated Start Date: May/June 2021 – December 2021 Background Ni-Vanuatu communities are increasingly affected by a range of sudden-onset and slow-onset environmental hazards that are either intensified or accelerated by climate change. Sudden-onset hazards include tropical storms and related storm surges, king tides, heavy rains and winds. Slow-onset processes, including sea level rise, rising sea temperatures, ocean acidification, coastal erosion, temperature and changes to rainfall variability and the El Niño and La Niña climate patterns. These hazards and climatic changes have far reaching impacts on human security in Vanuatu and other Pacific countries. Climate change and disasters may interact with other pre-existing drivers that already shape mobility patterns in the region. This may result in “trapped communities” who have few options to move as well as lead to different types of human mobility, including:

Nature of the consultancy: To conduct the sensitive gender needs assessment and develop the Tuvalu Reintegration Strategy** Objective of consultancy: The work will be under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission in Australia, and the direct supervision of the Project Development Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for liaison with the Government of Tuvalu (GoT) and stakeholders to successfully carry out the gender needs assessment and the development of the Reintegration Strategy for Tuvalu.
