one school in massachusetts is sending home permission slips, yep, for parents to decide whether it's okay for the kids to recite the pledge. sarah underwood of wfxt has the story. >> reporter: the devotion school in brookline hasn't said the pledge of allegiance in ten seven years, so when the principal issued a permission slip of sorts asking parents to fill it out so their children can participate. >> i think that that's perfectly reasonable. >> i think that is a little strange. >> reporter: he said, quote, under our constitution neither teachers, nor students can be mandated to participate in this exercise and went on to say whatever decision your child makes will be fully respected. >> mr. martinez will do it over the pa system. that's great. some students will stand, some will not. some will recite, some will not. some of our teachers will stand and recite, some will not. that's all okay.
