Boston Pride is the organization that has organized the largest annual pride parade in New England. Today the group announced that it was shutting down all operations in response to demands from activists who accused the group of being racist and exclusive. Here’s a portion of the group’s statement about the decision:
Over the past year, we have invested time and energy to address the concerns of the community, both with our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access work with Dorrington & Saunders and by forming the Transformation Advisory Committee comprised of members of the LGBTQIA+ community to help bring change to our organization. We are grateful for all who have been involved in this process.

Bay Area Reporter :: Boston Pride dissolves amid racial equity concerns

Amid a boycott over racial equity issues, the Boston Pride organization announced in a statement July 9 that it is dissolving.
"It is clear to us that our community needs and wants change without the involvement of Boston Pride," the statement on its website reads. "We have heard the concerns of the QTBIPOC community and others. We care too much to stand in the way. Therefore, Boston Pride is dissolving. There will be no further events or programming planned, and the board is taking steps to close down the organization."
Boston Pride, which held virtual events in June to celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month, has been criticized for being "whitewashed" and trans-exclusionary, according to a recent article in the Boston Globe.

The board of directors behind the Boston Pride organization announced late Friday that it would dissolve, taking steps to close down the organization amid recent calls for change. "It is clear to us that our community needs and wants change without the involvement of Boston Pride," a statement from the organization's board of directors said. "We have heard the concerns of the QTBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous People of Color) community and others. We care too much to stand in the way.""Therefore, Boston Pride is dissolving," the board of directors statement continued. "There will be no further events or programming planned, and the board is taking steps to close down the organization."The abrupt decision announced late on a Friday afternoon in July left many questions about the future of the pride movement in Boston and Massachusetts. "We know many people care about Pride in Boston, and we encourage them to continue the work," the statement said. "By making the decision to close down, we hope new leaders will emerge from the community to lead the Pride movement in Boston."The future of the Boston pride parade, which was canceled in 2020 and rescheduled from June to October 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, was not immediately clear. The Boston Pride board of directors had previously faced calls for its resignation, announcing last year a transformation advisory committee that it claimed would advise the organization to ensure that its vision, mission and values were in alignment and in the best interest of the LGBTQ+ community. A statement released in April said a committee of seven members of the greater Boston LGBTQ+ community would oversee the recruitment of new Boston Pride board members to ensure that the board is reflective of the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.Less than three months later, the board of directors announced the organization would be dissolved."Boston Pride undertook the transformation process as a result of the Boston Pride board’s response to concerns raised by Black, Brown, transgender people and other members of our community," the board's statement released Friday said. "It is clear to us that our community needs and wants change without the involvement of Boston Pride.""This decision was made with a heavy heart, out of love and hope for a better future," the statement said.Full statement from Boston Pride Board of DirectorsFor years, we have volunteered our time with Boston Pride because we care about and are passionate about the LGBTQIA+ community. We strived to foster an environment of diversity and unity within our organization and the community. Boston Pride Announces Its Dissolution Amid Boycott

Boston Pride, the decades-old LGBTQ+ group that organizes the city's Pride Parade, will disband.
The nonprofit's Board of Directors announced the decision in a statement posted online Friday afternoon.
"Over the past year, we have invested time and energy to address the concerns of the community," Boston Pride's board of directors wrote in a statement on the website. "It is clear to us that our community needs and wants change without the involvement of Boston Pride."
The announcement comes after years of growing tension with other Boston-based LGBTQ+ community leaders and organizations. In 2015, Black Lives Matter protestors interrupted the Boston Pride parade to demand more inclusivity and representation in the Pride organization. And last year, 80% of Boston Pride's volunteer workforce resigned after a statement put out by Boston Pride's board received backlash. The board came under fire for removing key parts of the statement, which was originally written by the volunteer workforce. Former volunteers alleged that the board removed "Black Lives Matter," without consent from its Black Pride committee members. Workers also cited allegations of racism and transphobia as reasons they resigned.

When Jo Trigilio received a letter from Boston Pride alleging her organization was infringing on Boston Pride's name, she says she was, "shocked. We wanted to engage in dialog with Boston Pride's board. But then this happened."
Trigilio founded Pride for the People, formerly Boston Pride 4 the People, with other community members back in June. The group changed its name after receiving a cease and desist letter from Boston Pride. The letter, addressed to Trigilio, Henry Paquin, Casey Dooley and Valerie Bee alleges inappropriate use of the Boston Pride name.

No Pride in Boston this year? That appears to be the case after Boston Pride released a statement late on Friday, July 9, 2021, that Boston Pride is dissolving.
"The organization's board dissolved, it announced Friday afternoon, and it won't be putting on any of its planned events. The move was made after Boston Pride worked to change amid criticism over inclusiveness," writes NBCBoston.com.
Whether or not this year's Pride parade, which was scheduled for June but was pushed back to September, will happen is up in the air. "The group grappled for months with complaints of structural racism, and it had hired consultants and formed an advisory committee to help facilitate that process," adds NBCBoston.com.

Boston Pride Must Let PoC Lead, Many Say

Boston Pride’s Apology Results in Backlash Again; Pride 4 the People, Community Leaders and Others talk about People of Color and Why The Statement Released Isn’t Representative Of All
By: Audrey Cole & Chris Gilmore/TRT Reporters—
BOSTON—Last week Boston Pride (BP) issued a press release letting the LGBTQ+ community know that the organization is undergoing a transformation to take responsibility for “their actions.”
Their actions involve a series of events including what has been explained as a “unilateral decision to remove any reference of Black Lives Matter” from an official “statement on police brutality after the murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Tony McDade,” that lead to the resignation of 80 percent of Boston Pride’s volunteer workforce in June 2020, according to a former statement from Jo Triglio (they/them), former Boston Pride Communications team and co-founder of Pride 4 The People (P4TP).
