virginia, 80 degrees there. got a little disturbance here rotating across parts of the heartland and seeing severe thunderstorms roll across the red river just north of dallas. and we do have a severe thunderstorm warning for this batch of cells that are moving to the east. some hail in there, but mostly i think damaging winds as this thing rotates to the east at about 45 miles an hour. again, 81 degrees in dallas, and 88 in houston. let's talk about what's going on in the tropics. this disturbance east of nicaragua and hon occduoccu hon potential of developing into something. taking it towards the western tip of cuba, potentially toward the florida keys towards the end of this week. this is going to be something that bears watching. this is kind of sort of where hurricane wilma developed back in 2005, which was the strongest hurricane here in the atlantic basin and it was in mid to late october. this is certainly a spot to watch this time of year.

favorable for large hail and damaging winds. can't rule out an isolated tornado but we don't think it will be a big tornado day. this is the area we're concerned with. it does include you in the oklahoma city area so we'll keep you up to date as those storms develop later on this afternoon. as we head into tomorrow, that front will advance toward the east. places like dallas-ft. worth on into the houston area, we'll see that chance of rain. we also see some scatter the showers across parts of the northeast. keep that in mind if you have travel plans for your monday. tomorrow is a holiday. columbus day. some of you don't have to work and may make it a long weekend with travel. temperaturewise, look at this. this whole ready area i highlighted from dakotas stretching down into the southeast, temperatures are going to be unbelievably warm for this time of year. we're talk 10 to 20 degrees above average pushing 80 degrees in minneapolis for your monday and into chicago. 85 in st. louis. 87 in atlanta. even d.c. up there at 86 degrees. hopefully you can get outside and enjoy some of this nice fall

a lot to cover. we'll hop on over and do it. let's get things started with what's happening in the pacific northwest. you look at the national perspective, things look quiet out to the east, so let's go west. seattle you see the scattered showers. all the pacific moisture racing on shore. as it does so, it's coupled with strong wind gusts. flooding is a possibility, but nos not as potent as yesterday. we'll show you showers down near denver, but if you look just to the northwest of boulder, a little bit of that popping up as white. they could see up to three inches of snow before the day is out. and in the northeast, it is not the snow but it certainly is the cold conditions. we've got frost and freeze warnsings in effect for places not far from white plains. temperatures in the 30s this morning. by mid-morning, those temperatures will warm up. something else that will warm up, the southeast.

washington yesterday. the rain still falling. we'll head to the weather maps and show it is still coming down in a torrent as we speak. the reason why is we have a storm system brewing off the gulf of alaska. all of that is bringing in pacific moisture. but it's not just the rain, it's also some strong winds at the same time, dealing with heavy surf along the coastline. as we pull to the east, scattered showers along the central plains, north of cheyenne. seeing raindrops. toward boulder, a little tell-tale sign of snowfall. then when you leave parts of the central plains and rockies and head to the northeast, precipitation is right above the u.s.-canadian border. the big story in the northeast is the blue stuff you see, the area where we have a frost and freeze warning in effect. temperatures above the freezing point. then by the afternoon, we'll be back in the 60s and 70s. it's going to be much warmer in the southeast and possibly by tomorrow. we could be getting very close to the high of 88 in atlanta. in fact, some places may get into the 90s for tomorrow. for today, main lly 80s.

spinning across parts of nebraska right there. this is going to dive down towards the south and east, so we'll watch this area for the threat of thunderstorms today and tomorrow as well. you can see where the showers and storms have been primarily across parts of kansas and just west of i-35, we've seen a couple thunderstorms looking intense and they may produce large hail and damaging winds as well. a slight risk issued by the storm's prediction center in this area towards texas and oklahoma but i think that energy is starting to focus farther up to the east and north of there. tomorrow, that frim will be on the move, so places like houston, up towards dallas will have the risks of thunderstorms. the east has been gorgeous but if you're traveling there tomorrow, we expect to see showers and thunderstorms but not until late in the day. the earlier you have the plans, the better off you'll be. the other feature, red air i lielighted not for severe weather threat but warm temperatures. we're talking 10 to 20 degrees

>> what an incredible story that is. want to go now to reynolds wolf. isn't that something, to see the celebrations there? >> amazing story we needed. no question about it. very happy story. not over yet. let's certainly keep our good thoughts for all our good friends in that part of the world. going from dry deserts in south america to the rainy midwest. we've got not one but two storm systems that will take a bead on the northwest, namely washington and oregon. pounding surf on the coastline, strong wind gusts, too. in terms of when all is said and done you could have nearly eight inches of rainfall in certain spots. it will be interesting to see if that scenario plays out in the pacific northwest. when you pull back to the east, what we'll be dealing with is scattered showers in the northern plains in the central and northern rockies. also some snow may pop up. snow accumulation will be around
