This is leading to obesity which in turn results in covid complications If all work and no play can make little boys and girls dull, it is hard to imagine what no work and no play can do. With schools being shut for a while and as restrictions on gatherings and playgrounds continue, doctors have been observing a worrying trend -- kids are gaining weight. Dr Lini Balakrishnan ( Consultant Paediatrician, Motherhood Hospitals, Sarjapur Road) said recently she received a few parents and kids at her clinic for consultation on obesity. “The kids were two years old and their weight was over 16 kg as against the ideal weight for that age group of around 9 kg. The parents told me their children were stuck to their gadgets most of the time and also that consumption of junk or fatty food had increased during the lockdown. Physical activity was almost nil. We had to advise them to opt for a nutritious diet and have mostly home cooked food and avoid sugary food. We also suggested an indoor work-out routine to cut down the excess weight,” she said.
