2021 San Francisco Greek Film Festival at Online in San Francisco - April 16, 2021

The San Francisco Greek Film Festival (SFGFF) announces their 2021 event, which will take place April 16-25. The Festival will be held online with one in person drive-in event, with all virtual screenings available free of charge. All programming is to be announced, which will be released with any other details on their website, at grfilm.com. The Festival team successfully held a previous virtual event this past October, and with that very positive experience under their belt, they look forward to sharing new film programs in the upcoming 18th annual Festival. Continuing another popular feature from last year's Festival, the upcoming event will include a drive-in movie presentation, to be held at Par 3 at Poplar Creek in San Mateo, on Sunday evening, April 17; other details are to be announced, including film program and admission charge. Until indoor theatres are able to reopen, the nostalgic experience of a drive-in movie is a safe opportunity to watch a film in person with an audience, and the SFGFF is delighted to gather their fans together for this special event.

OUR RIGHT TO GAZE: BLACK FILM IDENTITIES at Roxie Theater in San Francisco - February 18, 2021

OUR RIGHT TO GAZE: BLACK FILM IDENTITIES
SEE EVENT DETAILS
In this collection of six shorts, filmmakers gaze at themselves and their world, attempting to make sense of what they see reflected back. From gripping drama to heart-warming comedy, Our Right to Gaze: Black Film Identities features timely stories from Black artists that take us outside of the ordinary. Runtime: 82 mins.
The "Paradox of Expectation"...it's the idea that wanting to rid yourself of expectations is a paradox - literally the expectation of no expectation. In these six films from emerging Black filmmakers, what the protagonists experience as the world they woke up to is not the one from which they're now appearing. Are they lying to themselves about who they are, or is the truth just not what they expect, but what they deserve? - Curtis Caesar John, The Luminal Theater, curator.

African Diaspora Film Club | HOW IT FEELS TO BE FREE at Museum of the African Diaspora - MOAD in San Francisco - February 21, 2021

Join us for our monthly series, The African Diaspora Film Club. Modeled after our African Book Club, we will meet once a month to discuss a film that we have all viewed in advance of the discussion. The conversation will be moderated by Cornelius Moore, co-director of California Newsreel and film series curator at MoAD. We will be choosing a selection of films, some previously screened at MoAD. You may have already seen it, or this may be your first introduction. In either case, join us on the second Sunday of the month for a lively discussion of the film.
