THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental will no longer file charges against a couple in Pontevedra who misdeclared themselves as locally stranded individuals (LSIs).
Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, said he decided to forgive the couple and their son after they sent him a letter asking for forgiveness.
The couple was returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) in the documents, but they misdeclared themselves in the documents they submitted when they returned to the province early this year.
I felt their sincerity, the governor said after his decision not to file charges against them.
Lacson added that the couple did not realize the gravity of their actions. ....

A Pakistani-origin doctor in United States forgave more than half a million dollars in outstanding debts from nearly 200 patients.
Dr Omar Atiq founded the Arkansas Cancer Clinic in 1991. But the clinic shut its doors in February 2020 owing to staff shortage. The clinic offered cancer treatments ranging from chemotherapy and radiation therapy and tests such as CAT scans.
Earlier this week, the clinic sent out holiday greetings and told patients that any outstanding debts would no longer need to be paid.
I hope this note finds you well, wrote Dr Atiq. The Arkansas Cancer Clinic was proud to have you as a patient. Although various health insurances pay most of the bills for the majority of patients, even the deductibles and co-pays can be burdensome. ....

Years in prison for busting into the home of botham jean and killing him. what do you make of this as not only a civil rights activist, but as a pastor, to this whole amazing grace moment, where the family forgives, which i think the family has a perfect right to do? but there s a larger narrative that sort of suggests that that is what black folks have to do, that when there s police violence, the only response that s appropriate among african-americans is grace. well, first of all, i think that the sentence is certainly much lower than what meets the crime. to get ten years for murder. this man was murdered in his own house watching television and eating ice cream. i think it is absolutely inappropriate and unjustifiable. she should have been given more time. the forgiving part i understand the family. as you know, a man once stabbed me, a white male while i was leading a martial against the racial violence in the bensonhurst section of brooklyn. i forgave the man, but the man ....
