who was as much a player on the chessboard of american politics as pretty much anybody else. and there you have the proof. >> yes, and he was probably arguably the most influential force inside of the modern-day republican party outside of donald trump. and with donald trump out of office, tucker carlson on his fox news show and the fox news support was extremely influential. and she describes him as a journalist but i think it is more better to express them as an extremist. an extremist who pushed the republican party to the extreme weather it was with casting conspiracies about the covid vaccine, about what happened on january six, slowing down the election on 2020. there was so many conspiracy theories that carlson floated on his program that ended up taking all of the republican party. and he gave voice to those and we were talking about how kevin mccarthy probably wouldn't have come out against russia in the war on ukraine this week if

abortion may be the vulnerable issue for republicans. just ask the rnc chairwoman, take a listen. >> independence did not break our way, which has to happen if we're going to win in 2024, which usually that's what causes that red wave, and abortion was a big issue. so the guidance we're going to give to our candidates is you have to address this head on. the democrats spent 360 million on this, and many of our candidates across the board refuse to talk about it. >> michael, if the chairwoman of the rnc is saying this on a fox news show, how big of a problem is abortion for republican candidates? >> it's a huge problem. it's a huge problem because they basically lied to the american people, and then they got to clean it up. for years they claimed this was a matter left to the states and when the supreme court said, okay, here, states, it's yours, deal with it, the republicans took the strategy to nationalize the narrative. so now they're looking and talking about and proposing national bans.

right for that, and that is a totally different thing. we now have a news network that is reaching tens of millions of people and knowingly lying. what's really interesting too, about their own argument in this case, they're not disputing that they're lying. they're trying to argue that the lies were newsworthy, and i think that just underscores how far they've strayed from actually trying to be a news network. >> lanhee, in the midst of this lawsuit we should note kevin mccarthy is trying to defend his decision to publicly release january 6th security footage to one of the hosts of fox news show. it's not like -- he is not releasing it to everybody in the news media. he is releasing to it this channel that has now admitted, although not this particular host that i'm talking about, but has now admitted knowingly lying. >> yeah, let's hope that that footage is more broadly available to all networks, including this one. i think it's important that if the footage is made available to one, it's made available the
