A wealthy philanthropist donated four apartment buildings in L.A.’s Baldwin Hills to Boston University. The school wanted to sell the buildings to the highest bidder – but tenants had a better idea.

The University has reached an agreement in principle to sell four LA apartment buildings, a bequest from the late alumnus and donor Frederick Pardee, to a land trust, averting the displacement of 130 tenants.

The residences had been a gift from Boston University alumnus and major donor Frederick Pardee.
