With overall federal budget expanding steadily year after year, you’d think not one category of spending has had to suffer. Surely everything that can be funded has all the money it could want or need — and then some. But you’d be wrong. When it comes to defense spending, it’s a different story. Lawmakers that can’t bring themselves to make tough but necessary cuts elsewhere, even in areas of dubious federal responsibility, suddenly find they’re able to say “no” when it comes to something as vital as our national security.

‘THE BILL WILL NOT MOVE’: A showdown is looming over efforts by Republican lawmakers who are seeking to end the military’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement — a policy that has resulted in thousands of troops being discharged at a time when all the services are facing recruiting challenges.

President Donald Trump’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2021 would reduce the size and reach of the federal bureaucracy significantly by shifting government responsibilities back to constitutional priorities and empowering state and local governments.  These reforms, contained in the request Trump sent Monday morning to Congress, would put the budget on track to balance and represent a significant first step toward reducing spending and stabilizing the nation’s unsustainable debt. 

It should by now be axiomatic that the best way to have fewer military personnel to memorialize is to maintain defense forces strong enough to deter aggression or to defeat any aggressors while suffering less American loss of life.
